Carrier Houses Bed & Breakfast

OMG!!! My friend Fred, from Forest City, recommended the Carrier Houses B&B and for that I will be forever thankful!! If you are anywhere near Asheville, NC or Greenville, SC consider a stay here! Jim & Russell, the owners/innkeepers provide you with a personal experience you won't find anywhere else. Do yourself a favor and call to make a reservation and you will immediately understand why you will have a great stay. You'll be asked about dietary restrictions and the purpose of your visit so they can tailor a visited crafted just for you. The 2 houses date to the 1800's and are beautiful and tastefully done. There are plenty of places to sit back and relax including porches and a pond, and the small, charming downtown is just one block away. If you are a church goer, there are 3 different denominations to choose from. Breakfast is delicious and prepared from scratch by Jim who prefers to use fresh ingredients. As a non-yogurt lover, Jim converted me with his blend of Greek yogurt, ricotta cheese, honey, and vanilla bean paste with an assor**ent of fresh fruit. If you've seen the movie, Last Holiday, starring Queen Latifah, and remember the scene where she hugs the sheets in bed, well I felt the same way when I slid between the sheets. What else can I say but that I will DEFINITELY be back!!!!

Jim & Russell are amazing hosts! Our room was perfect, with a private entrance & an incredibly comfortable bed. Breakfast each morning morning was delicious. The porch makes a relaxing option to slow down & just enjoy. Rutherfordton offers a variety of things to do for a weekend getaway.

This is a beautiful historic property with truly great hosts in a small town at the base of the Blue ridge Mountains. This property and its amazing hosts is also a great value as compared to Asheville. Jim and Russell are kind men who not only cook a tasty breakfast for you, but go old-school and serve a seated breakfast. All was very nice. We planned for a romantic weekend to see the colors change and we weren’t disappointed. We’ll definitely stay again. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful place to stay! Jim and Russell were great hosts. Very knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was excellent and they went out of there way to help us celebrate our 10th Anniversary. Look forward to another stay

What a wonderful B&B experience! We were fortunate to be a part of the Carrier Houses' elaborate Halloween decor and festivities. Everything about our stay was fantastic from our large and comfortable room to unique memorable breakfasts....pumpkin pancakes and French (bread) toast! While the beautiful historic and well maintained house can't be beat, the real magic of the Carrier Houses B&B is the warmth and welcoming nature of Jim and Russell (and four legged friends Ranger and Watson). Full of helpful information and wonderful stories about the houses, village, and surrounding area, Jim and Russell easily transformed the houses to home and made us feel part of the family. We shall return.

Stayed at The Carrier Houses B & B in October, attended a wedding in nearby Union Mills. The place was great! The innkeepers, Jim And Russell are excellent. The house's were decorated for Halloween, they pay attention to every detail. The breakfast served every morning was outstanding. They are historians, they are active in their community. Very relaxing, sitting on the front porch with our wine in the afternoon, screened in porch at night. Koi pond in the back yard. Lit up beautifully, ample parking. They, live on sight. I can only picture, how it is decorated for Thanksgiving and Chris**as. Reasonably priced. They called me personally, the Wednesday before we left, asking about any dietary restrictions. Received a thank you, in the mail. 20-30 minutes, from Lake Lure, NC. If your heading that way, I highly recommend.

We just love this B&B. Jim and Russell are such wonderful hosts. They had decorated the houses beautifully for Fall. There were decorations everywhere! I can only imagine what it looks like at Chris**as! This is the second year in a row that a group of 4 couples have stayed with them. They have added a smokeless firepit to their backyard and we had such a great time visiting around the pit in thr evening. Russell made sure we had plenty of wood available for both nights. There is also a fish pond in the backyard so you have the sound of water to relax to. Jim is a fabulous cook so we had a great breakfast each morning. We have stayed in the Haynes room on both occasions and really like the room. This is an awesome B&B so don't hesitate staying here!

Rutherford is a small historical town. Carrier house is such a great option to stay compared to those chain hotels. the house is located right in the middle of the historical downtown, with plenty of parking spaces. the house is beautiful and clean inside and outside. The room is big, with beautiful furniture and paintings. sitting on the patio or in the parlor room is such a nice experience. The hosts, Russell and Jim are so welcome and warm hearted. I bought a lot of apples and apple ciders. they put my ciders in their frig. Jim cooks great breakfast. guests at the house are very nice people too, often frequent guests. had great conversation at breakfast table. highly recommend for sure!

My wife and I recently enjoyed a lovely two night getaway with friends at The Carrier Houses Bed and Breakfast in Rutherfordton, NC. Our rooms were comfortable, spacious, and clean. Russell and Jim are great hosts. They’ve seen to every detail … and their breakfasts are amazing! It’s a great experience. We recommend them highly.
