Mermaid Inn

There is nowhere else quite like it, it’s unique and the experience of staying there was wonderful. The service was excellent at every point - checkin, room, restaurant, bar, checkout. Staff were friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the long history of the Mermaid. The room was small but clean and well appointed and exactly as expected from the booking. Despite being the such an old building and staying in December every part of the Mermaid was warm and cosy including the bedroom. There is parking for guests but it’s very small and the spaces are very tight. I’d recommend paying a few quid to park nearby in one of the overnight car parks. The food was excellent with the evening meal a surprise… the vegetarian menu options were some of the best I’ve tasted and definitely not an afterthought as they often are on menus. I would highly recommend a stay here. You might pay a little more than other hotels but it is well worth it. Unforgettable.

This truly exceeded our expectations in every way. From start to finish our experience of the hotel and its staff was amazing! On arrival we were greeted by Pat who showed us where to park, took us to our room and then served us in the bar.Pat is a very welcoming and warm individual with THE BEST sense of humour and an undisputed passion for his job at The Mermaid! Dinner and service in the restaurant was just perfect and wonderful.Again, each and every member of staff was welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. Our room(17) was beautiful. Very clean and comfortable with a lovely bathroom. Breakfast was also beautifully cooked. Again the staff were incredible; so professional and polite! Kiera took our order on her first day in the role and was so friendly and welcoming! Breakfast was lovely , cannot fault it! Overall, it was a truly wonderful experience and we cannot recommend this place highly enough! Thank you so much to all the staff for our incredible experience!

The beautiful Mermaid Inn is located upon one of the prettiest streets in England. The rooms and beds were comfortable whilst retaining the history of the Inn and the Tudor Architecture. Friendly, helpful and attentive staff, pleased to chat about the history of the Inn and surroundings. The Mermaid Inn is in the perfect location for exploring Rye, with St Mary's Church, the High Street all close by. The Inn has the best Fireplace Bar with so much history, and there is so much to discover all over the inn. The narrow, steep stairs might be difficult for anyone with walking difficulties, but it is a joy to feel a part of the history of the place. And the breakfasts were exceptional, enjoyed in a gorgeous dining room. What a fabulous stay!

a toa totally brilliant hotel quirky fun but not really disability friendly too many steep stairs not for the faint hearted Our room was definately quirky there were quite steeps steps to the bathroom with a strange door opening onto the room which you had to lean over the steps to close it with difficiculty had to grab a door handle without falling down the steps!!! the bath with shower over again had no grab rail to hold onto to get in and out the bath/shower the shower was a delight once you found out how to turn it on and get hot water the taps for the shower were a bit loose so you had to persevere the room was very hot no idea why had window open all night the radiator was cold bottled water but no fridge to keep them cool of anythng else too the water was warm

Had the best time at the mermaid in. We got upgraded to room 6 and how lucky did we feel! Such an iconic hotel. Really is a time warp! The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful, helpful and so much more. Customer service is A* would highly recommend this hotel. Very clean tidy and rooms are quiet. We will be back for sure, myself and my boyfriend felt very well looked after. Nothing was ever too much for the staff. Thank you so much for our stay ❤️

I surprised my husband with a stay here last night for his birthday . We couldn’t get in the car park as reduced spaces due to a collapsed drain but we parked in a 24hr car park just a 5 minute walk away for a good price. We stayed in Rye Royal overlooking roof tops and country views, what a beautiful quirky place, our room was cosy, very clean and had so much character. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the stunning restaurant before we headed home, the weather was amazing and we enjoyed a wonderful day looking around the various antique shops and enjoyed a drink and a wonderful dinner at Simply Italian, only 30 minutes from home.

We had a drink in the bar before dinner - amazing gin list and good local beer. Great bar staff. Moved to the dining room - lovely fine dining experience with good atmosphere, great staff and delicious wine. Started with bread and amuse bouche - yum! Followed by pigeon wellington and beetroot/goats cheese and then we both had the belly pork - so tender! No room for dessert but had coffee and petit fours. Recommend whole heartedly and will definitely return when we visit the area again.

We love coming here both as a couple and family. We have both stayed here and eaten here and every single time it’s wonderful, an escape from the norm. On dark stormy wintery nights to summer evenings there is a magic about the Mermaid that cannot be found elsewhere. Yesterday we came as a family for Sunday lunch, we could only manage the one course but it was one of the nicest plated Sunday lunches I have eaten in years. The quality of the beef was fabulous, the roast potatoes delicious the cauliflower cheese amazing. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon yesterday.

Hospitality at its best. Very welcoming , outstanding service , spotlessly clean, comfy beds, delicious breakfast. Enjoyed our stay immensely. A particular mention to Rhia and James who are a credit to their profession and the Inn. Thank you
