Don't be fooled by good rating on TripAdvisor. Read before booking this hotel : I was on a 2 nights, 3-day trip to visit some of the ancient temples nearby Shimoga & Sagara. First night, I stayed at Royal Orchid Central, Shimoga - 2 Rooms @ Rs.5,485/- (screenshot attached) Second night, I stayed at Green Embassy, Sagara - 2 Rooms @ Rs.5,385/- (screenshot attached) There is a difference of only Rs.50/- per room. These two hotels are at a distance of 70km. Shimoga is a district place and big city, Sagara is a taluka (tehsil) in the Shimoga district and a small town. I am mentioning here rates of both hotels because you get to know if you are getting "value for money" only if you compare the rates with hotels in close proximity. Admittedly, Royal Orchid is a big brand, and there is no need to mention the amenities and service i got there. It was excellent as always. Green Embassy hotel management should consider - When the rates are same, everything will be compared to the Royal Orchid. Below is the review / comparison of Green Embassy, Sagara - This is a hotel posing to be a luxury hotel but not more than an average hotel at a price of luxury hotel. It was dieali night, When I reached hotel, there was no one present on the reception. The entire staff was busy bursting firecrackers. After checking in, the first impression on the room was very good. The person who carried my bag waited for almost 10 minutes for the tip. He left only when i tipped him. When I had a look at the bed, I came to know that the sheets, blanket, and pillow covers were used by previous guests and not chaged. It was very dirty and had hairs and stains over the bed. (Pictures attached). So I decided to call housekeeping. There was no guide on the phone about which number to dial for housekeeping, room service, reception, etc. So I just randomly dialled no.9 and told about the dirty sheets, blanket, and pillow covers. Then the same person who brought my luggage came with new sheets and pillow cover and handed over it to me. When I requested him to change the sheets, he told me that the mattress is very heavy and it requires 3 people to change the sheets and he is the only person on duty in the entire hotel. The time was 8 PM. There was an electric kettle in the room, but no tea bags, no coffee sachets at all. When I asked about it, he came back with lots of milk powder sachet, only 1 coffee sachet and no tea bag. And he told me that this is all they have. Later, I found that air conditioning was not working. So again, I called reception twice. But no one showed up. As I was very tired, i went to sleep without air conditioning. The next day I checked out at 9:00 AM. At the reception I asked them to see the manager. He said the manager comes at 10:30. About restaurants: I ordered paneer tikka masala for dinner.
