Grand Hotel de la Poste

Ok, the rooms may be small, but this place checks all the boxes. Perfect location, parking - though expensive - behind the hotel, great breakfast, comfortable rooms, nice common areas, super helpful staff. Don’t even think about it, this is a great value in this lovely town. Everything is within a few blocks. We were here two nights and would stay longer, but had to move on.

The Grand Hotel de la Poste has a good location at the non-pedestrian end of the central Rue Gambetta and not far from the beach. Its history goes back to the 18th century, when it was a 'Relais de la Poste', where in 1777 - as it says on a plaque by the entrance - also the Marquis de La Fayette did stay on his way to the Americas. We had booked a 'Chambre Supérieure' and we got room 14 on the first floor, which shares a big terrace with a room next door, but there is a separation with flower pots and each room has its own table and chairs there. The room itself was big enough and had some traditional furniture. There was plenty enough space for storing our belongings. The bathroom was good too and also had a bathtub, which we didn't use though, preferring to shower. Opposite the reception with very friendly and helpful staff is a beautiful living room with books and magazines, tea and coffee making facilities (none in the room), with a fireplace and a billard table. It looks as if made for English guests, who in the early 20th century loved the French 'Côte Basque' to spend the winter. My wife and me thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights stay here.

We have stayed at lot of four to five star hotels. This is a very special place. They care about the details and they are so accommodating and truly welcoming. The rooms are beautifully renovated and spacious. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud and the pillows are so comfortable (and there are three different types). I went to sleep listening to the sound of the waves hitting the beach… extraordinary…. Oh, and in the lobby they had a cookie jar filled of the most delicious homemade chocolate chip mini cookies!

Terrific hotel in St Jean de Luz (so much nicer a place than BIarritz). Easy walking distance from shops, restaurants and beach; lovely staff; rooms spacious and comfortable (ours with its own balcony); excellent breakfast. Would certainly stay here again.

This hotel seemed very well run. The room was big, light and very clean. The bathroom was large and well designed. The location is great, between the station and the old town. Did not take the brrakfast. Highly recommended

Friendly staff and great location. You can walk in to the centre of town. Wonderful buffet breakfast too. Only negatives - parking is a bit challenging and would suggest blackout curtains in the room. There was an outside light on all night which the current curtains didn't block out..

Very impressed, right in the middle of town, very friendly staff. Clean room and lovely breakfast. The central staircase is very impressive. There is a car park behind the hotel that you pay for but a free one is just up the road next to the police station.

Opposite my favorite shop, Monoprix , and a very short walk from everywhere else (beach, shops, restaurants…) this hotel is just great. Lovely building, spacious reception area, comfortable lounge with lovely antique chairs and , more importantly , an excellent bedrooms. Ours had a little private garden, a very good size bathroom with a great shower, a separate toilet and a comfortable bed. Best of all was breakfast, with excellent pains au chocolat and croissants, various breads, ham and saucisson, cheeses and fruits etc , and plenty of delicious coffee served by two charming ladies. When back in Saint Jean de Luz, we will look no further.

Staffs are very friendly from the reception and restaurant. Old style wooden deco is really nice. Highly recommended.
