Casa Camellia

My wife and I most often turn to AirBnB in Mexico for all kinds of reasons. Casa Camellia, especially the property manager Uriel and his team, remind us why this is a bit shortsighted. Wow. Uriel. Uriel. Uriel. I have traveled the world and stayed in all kinds of swanky places. No one, NO ONE, has ever welcomed me as warmly, kindly, ably as Uriel when I landed in San Miguel de Allende after 9pm last Saturday night. This is not hyperbole. Whether you speak English or Spanish, you are in excellent hands. This says nothing about the general value with a good quality room, the beautiful common spaces intentionally curated with art, nature, color, light, and the delicious complementary breakfast by Marta and her colleague in the stunning restaurant space. Bravo Casa Camellia. Bavo. We'll be back!

It exceeded our expectations! Service was incredible, thanks to Uriel and Blanca; we loved every detail in the house, it has a nice garden with a couple of fountains, the breakfast was delicious, and they do have air conditioning in the rooms which is great considering the hot weather. The location is really near to the City center and to the bus station. I highly recommend staying here.

This hotel is very cozy, and all the staff is very friendly. It has a beautiful garden and very nice common areas, affordable price and includes breakfast. The place is very close to the center. I highly recommend it, if you are planning to visit San Miguel de Allende this is the option to stay.

We loved Casa Camellia! Even before we arrived, Uriel proved to be an amazing host; great communication and directions to the house and offered an early check in. The rooms are lovely, we had a look through the windows of the rooms that were empty and they’re all unique! They have everything you need and more in the rooms, including dressing gowns and face cloths, and the best hot (as in, properly hot) showers that are the best we’ve had in our 3 weeks in Mexico. The shared kitchen is well equipped and set up for cozy nights on the sofas. There are terraces everywhere, so no shortage of places to relax! The breakfast was also perfect, we had a different breakfast every morning. The cafe is open until 3pm with a great menu. A 10 minute walk to the centre of town and to be honest, it was great to get away from the chaos of the main city, and feel amongst locals! Uriel was quick to respond to any questions and advice, nothing was too much trouble. The ladies working at the casa and cafe were so lovely, we felt well at home - so much so we stayed another night! Thank you to the whole team (and resident cat) for our wonderful stay!

The place is so unique, lovely patios & rooms. The cook is amazing!! There is a full kitchen to share with other occupants. It’s about a 15 walk to the center of town. It’s a very safe area. Prices are good.

Charming quiet place but staff not able to empty bathroom trash daily (necessary for odor and cleanliness) and I was missing purchases when I packed to leave. Blanca was extremely helpful for breakfast dietary needs.

Blanca is a gem. She worked very hard to prepare our breakfasts. While all were delicious, some, for me, were skimpy. She helped us with calling taxis and keeping us informed re:van pick-ups. The rooms were lovely and comfortable.

Great location. . I stayed here for almost a month. There were times when I was quite happy, but overall much improvements are needed. Pros: Location, Nicely decorated, Colorful Kitchen (although bare minimum supplies) . NIce rooftop views. Good for a few nights. Cons: Consistently changing policies, over charged, king beds are two hard twin mattresses. Poor lighting in rooms at night; no tables/chair for laps tops Can hear everything in others rooms, patios, cafe etc. Smoking guests below. LIghts shining into rooms through glass floors blocks. (used towels to cover). No tables, chairs to sit on rooftop. Poor lighting throughout. I first found on Airbnb.when my initial reservation cancelled at last minute. The co host suggested we take it off AirlBnb and she would give me a great weekly rate. However, when I arrived, she charged me per night , then the 2nd week I got a weekly rate, the 3 rd week I was there 6 nights due to travel so back to nightly rate. In other words, . . . make it up as you go along, .Internet was a joke the first 2 + weeks until they got a new modem. I had to walk all over property to get a signal. And it became my fault, because, I chose a room with no signal (and was not told such) When I first reached out via AirBnB, I said I was looking for a quiet place to write. If you want QUIET , this is NOT the place. Rooms are close together. No air if hot , no heat if cold. "cafe" is open 6 mornings a week (9-1)..sounds from customers and staff travels up into your room through the open courtyard "cafe". so forget about a quiet morning. DO NOT get a room near the community kitchen or a room above a patio. . because then you have conversation, music and SMOKE coming into your room- even though policy is smoking on upper verandas (which need work ) I stayed mostly because of fabulous location (it is a quiet street .in Col. San Antonia), and because I ve been traveling alot and just wanted to stay still for awhile. Lastly ,you are asked to NOT INTERACT with other guests if you need something. Overcharge and under deliver was my overall experience. Place has a lot of potential.. .just needs alot of TLC and more accountability.

Hotel muy acogedor y tranquilo, tiene pocos cuartos, el mío era bastante amplio y bonito con una cama king size muy cómoda. Hay una cocina compartida en donde uno puede calentar sus alimentos o guardarlos en un refrigerador compartido. El desayuno se hace en un patio interior muy agradable debajo de los árboles. La decoración es muy acogedora. Las habitaciones tienen aire acondicionado y me dejaron fruta en mi cuarto, lo cual es también un bonito detalle. Lo que no tiene es estacionamiento, se tiene que dejar el auto en la calle. Dicen que es muy tranquilo y que los autos están seguros, pero yo llegaba en la noche y a veces no encontraba lugar cerca. No hay una recepción ni personal todo el tiempo, sin embargo, Uriel siempre fue muy servicial y atento. Nos dijo que si requería la de alguna cosa, que le podíamos marcar a su celular y que él vería cómo arreglar. La verdad es que Uriel fue súper atento y muy amable siempre. La otra cosa es que no me tendieron mi cama al siguiente día. En la mayoría de los hoteles tienden las camas, pero aquí lo dejaron tal cual como lo dejé de la noche anterior. No fue problema para mí, porque yo había estado en esa habitación antes. Sí me la entregaron limpia y arreglada el primer día. El centro está cerca, unos 15 minutos caminando. Hay que considerar que hay una pendiente pronunciada que hay que subir para llegar el centro, y recomiendo más caminar de día, en la noche ya está un poco solo. Definitivamente volvería a hospedarme con ellos, me gustó mucho el hotel y la pasé muy bien!!
