Upon arriving at reception, to departing ~ this renovated monastery, all staff were so accommodating and friendly, throughout our stay. I travelled with a friend and we had opted for the very well priced, pilgrim en suite rooms with breakfast. Our rooms were next door to each other and equipped well with the basics required. Single bed, desk, wardrobe, lamps. It felt a fitting location to base ourselves at, after completing our Sarría to SDC Pilgrim Camino Path. The room felt cosy and so authentic. I loved the original wooden window shutters, which looked down into a beautifully landscaped courtyard. It was very clean and would certainly recommend to stay here. Breakfast was a mixture of continental, cereals, breads, coffee & juices and was a nice atmosphere to be in. They were very accommodating in being able to provide gluten free items, to which I was very thankful for. Even moreso, that each morning upon arrival, the young waiter would remember and check us in and re appear with them. We encountered an array of many friendly fellow Worldwide Camino pilgrim walkers, who were very pleasant and interesting to engage and speak with at breakfast. We did try the pilgrims meal 3 course meal the first evening, out of curiosity, As much as it was worth the €15, it lacked any atmosphere to the grand, architectural room that the restaurant is located within. Even if to play a gentle back ground music would have been nice, to take the edge of the silence. But, equally we did enjoy our meal and had a good evening there, retreating to the bar area after dinner, to end the evening. Overall, I would definitely stay here again, as the location too, is second to none! It is centrally located and the cathedral is within a minute away and can be seen and heard at the main entrance doors. There are so many attractions to see in SDC and there are an array of bars, restaurants and shops within the vicinity. Just walking around or sitting enjoying a coffee, watching the world go by is peaceful in this city. A great end to this Camino journey for sure.
