Check-in for this hotel is around the corner at Halo Boutique Hotel. Staff was very pleasant and offered us a glass of cava. Casas de Santa Cruz is located in another building which has a beautiful glass and iron door before entering a tiled courtyard with a “fountain” and several chairs. Our room was upstairs, a double with a balcony. Room was small but certainly doable or so we thought until we started unpacking! There is a wardrobe/closet with several hangers and a small drawer. It was easier to just keep our clothes in our packing cubes. There is nowhere in the bathroom to put your toiletries. So, speaking of the bathroom, here are the negatives for me (1) one of the hinges on the toilet seat lid was broken, (2) loud fan comes on every time you turn the light on, (3) bathroom door is VERY hard to close & sometimes will pop back open. If it doesn’t and you have to open it yourself, it’s extremely loud, (4) very bad patch job on the side of the tub, and by far the worst (5) the mold/mildew inside the tub (see last paragraph). There are 2 small soaps and 4 bath gel-shampoo bottles. There is no conditioner, lotion or tissues. The bathroom does have good lighting and nice thick towels. The mattress on the bed is not the most comfortable and the sheets are horrible! They’re thin and scratchy from pilling. Pillowcases were yellowed. There are 2 foam pillows (longer than standard size & pretty flat). Our sheets were never changed in the 5 nights we were there. On the day we checked in, I found a note from Housekeeping stating that they were unable to clean the room because the Do Not Disturb sign was on the door. Now, I’m wondering if the sheets were ever changed before we got there. The headboard is metal so not the most comfortable for sitting up to read at night. Room has a wall-mounted TV which didn’t work. When we checked in, there was a small vase with a flower. Flower died 2 days later and was still there on our last day. They do put 2 bottles of water in the room and it is replenished daily except for the last couple of days when we had to ask for it. Our last full day when I asked, the response from one of the housekeepers was “we don’t have any, sorry”. There is mention of a rooftop terrace where you can see views of the city. It’s described as “a cozy terrace with grass, plants and a shower with rain effect”. See the attached photo & the grass - it’s astroturf. Regarding the mold/mildew - when we checked in, we couldn’t figure out the AC so we just slept with the balcony door open. The next morning, we stopped at the reception desk and asked about it. Very nice gentleman said he would have someone check it out. When we got back that afternoon, the room was nice and cool AND when I went in the bathroom, the tub had been caulked! I never mentioned anything about the bathroom!
