Sean’s Guesthouse

I can’t encourage you enough to stay at Sean’s. Tiger Leaping Gorge does not stop at Tina’s. We walked to Sean’s from Tea Horse Guesthouse on our second day of our three day trip around Tiger Leaping Gorge. The only thing that we were disappointed in is that we didn’t come sooner! Sean’s Guesthouse is amazing, with super clean rooms with everything you need. As well as a common areas where you can view the stars at nice and socialise. The food was amazing and I definitely encourage you to try. We got to speak to Sean properly on our last morning there and he told us all about how he was there and watched the Tiger Leaping Gorge develop. He’s the most experienced guy there and cares simply for respecting the wildlife. We found he runs tours such as climbing, running, hiking and learning Chinese medicine. We’re so sad we had run out of time as we would love to do this.

We went during May Holiday. While it was quite busy, the staff worked hard to accommodate everyone and provided clean rooms, wine, and good food. It’s about a 25-30 minute walk from the beginning/end of the Hutiaoxia Trail but if you’re mentally prepared for this it’s not so bad. Owner speaks good English. It was unclear if the bus shuttle was running but turns out it was, even though we’d already made other arrangements.

Great guesthouse and well worth the hike! Sean is an absolute legend, impeccable English and a fountain of knowledge. He also organized a minibus for us to get back to Lijiang. Tiger Leaping Gorge trek does NOT finish at Tina’s (contrary what many blogs say); the path continues 50 minutes down the gorge, and then through the Ray of Sunshine trail, which is one of the most stunning parts of the trek. After 1 hour of beautiful views and walking through Walnut Grove, you will reach Sean’s (after a short hike back to main road). The rooms / bathrooms are a little dated; the food was great.

With two friends, we had a great time at Sean's Guesthouse thanks to the warm welcome of our hosts and the beautiful wiew on the mountain and the flowers of the house. During our stay of two days, our hosts were very nice to us: the food was delicious (you have a great panel of choice with pancakes for breakfast if you want). The host, Sean always asked if we were well and offered his help for booking a taxi or telling us the way of the walk. The family room was very cosy, quiet and clean. I really recommend you Sean Guesthouse for a stay in the Tiger Leaping Gorges!

We stayed one night at Sean’s Guesthouse as part of our two day Tiger Leaping Gorge hike. We arrived late in the evening but that was no problem at all. Sean is a very friendly host who would welcome you at any time. We had a very nice dinner in the evening and breakfast in the morning. From our clean and well equipped private room we had a beautiful view on the surrounding mountains. We would definitely stay here again if we would return.

Great GH in Tigerleaping gorge away from the big streams of bus tourists at the viewing platform. Sean is a great guy who knows a lot about the area and can recommend routes and tell lots of stories. His English is also very good. Unfortunately we only came here on our last day and could not do much of it - would love to come again and check out the area more. Rooms are a little dated, but very clean cozy - ideal for a rest after a day of hiking. The food is all organic and tastes great - make sure to try the pan broiled bread - perfect after a day of hiking or as breakfast before starting a day of exploring. Sean’s GH is not marked on the trail like others, but it’s right at the street in Walnut Garden and easy to find. For those who want to hike the upper treck (highly recommended!) try to arrange transport directly to the 28bends (28拐 / er shi ba guai). We took the shuttle bus to the tiger leaping gorge scenic spot but it drops you off at a big viewing platform on the street and far from the hiking trail. We ended up walking by the street and getting a ride with a local woman passing us.

Sean was an absolute star from beginning to end. His English is excellent, which makes life much easier as a foreign tourist, and he's also great fun. I wanted to hike the Tiger Leaping Gorge in a single day and therefore thought I'd ensure an earlier start than the public bus would allow. He organised a driver to collect me from Lijiang and drop my main bag at the start of the hike to be transported onwards. When I arrived they prepared food to fit my vegetarian needs. I'd also managed to hurt my ankle whilst walking and he was so friendly that I decided to stay an extra couple of days to let it heal up. Nothing was too much trouble and onward travel was also arranged without fuss. And they had a bloody puppy only eight weeks old.

Thé room was awesome and 山 thé host was super nice.

Good all round, homely welcome, excellent food, friendly service. Room was extremely simple but didn't need any more. There are communal showers and toilets, washing machine driers, outside seating, inside dining area. Location is great for stop along the trail.
