Maruia River Retreat

Maruia River Retreat is a great place to Rest, Recover and Replenish oneself . The staff go above and beyond to ensure you are pampered and relaxed . Nothing was a problem .Their attention to detail is second to none .The retreat is immersed in nature , topped up with forest bathing , Saunas and a magnesium pool . The delicious meals made with fresh produce from their luscious garden was the icing on the top . The yoga sessions were an absolute treat , with Cristina and Lasse sharing their experiences and knowledge with us . We will be basking in this experience for a long time to come !!It was an absolute privilege to have been able to indulge in this experience provided by Lasse , Cristina and their helpers . I had a wonderful stay at the magical Maruia River Retreat....My top highlights were the well-appointed villas, forest bathing, and unbelievably good, fresh cuisine. Be sure to take a walk of the property with co-founder and master chef, Lasse. He is a natural naturalist and his passion for the wildlife and plants of the region is contagious. I found myself immersed the environment surrounding the retreats- I even made friends with a bird. Finally, Cristina's attention to guests' needs is exceptional.

We stayed here for3 nights in February and it was delightful. From the moment we arrived we were made feel welcome.And the rooms were extremely comfortable with dark curtains to make sleeping better. From the forest bathing and sauna , the beautiful forest walks with great info from Lasse. Magnesium pool and swimming in the beautiful river on the property. They grow all of their own begs and fruit here which really shines in the food. Wonderful meals from breakfast with beautiful home made bread and the delicious yoghurt.The evening meals were a real standout , especially the steak. Just wow. We also met some lovely people who are now friends. It’s that kind of place. I feel as though we arrived here as strangers and left feeling like part of the family. Christina and Lasse are the perfect hosts .And we would love to go back . Perfect!

Everything was just amazing here. The staff were over the top and went above and beyond. I had the best sleep and most relaxing 3 days. The food was next level. I had the steak my last day and was I glad I did. Wowser yummo. I also loved the Magnesium pool and wish I had one at home. What a great spot.

I couldn't fault this place even if I tried. Best most relaxing experience I've ever had. The Cristina and team made our anniversary extra special with little touches. Husband says he had the best steak he has ever had, and everything I ate was delicious. The nature walk was wonderful Lasse was very informative. So welcoming and helpful. I could go on and on about how exceptional everything was but you are best to just go and experience it for yourselves.

I had the best time! I was desperately seeking an escape where I would be taken care of and could heal. This was the place. The moment I arrived I felt so much warmth and from then on nothing was a problem and I was truly looked after with the best service. I can't fault my experience. Maruia River Retreat is owned & operated by consummate professionals Cristina & Lasse, who seem to be highly skilled in many areas. From the moment of booking to the final farewell, every detail was considered & executed with the utmost warmth & care. I was looking for a retreat which offered an element of pampering, quality facilities, relaxation, immersion in nature & good food. It boasted all of that & more. Nestled in serene native bush and situated alongside the charming Maruia River... you feel yourself instantly melt & succumb to the sounds & vibes of nature as soon as you arrive. Each Villa has complete privacy and is surrounded by lush bush with river views. The heated magnesium swimming pool was a dream to swim in... the water source comes from a pure mountain spring... no chlorine in sight. The Hot tub sits privately amongst tall native trees and overlooks the river – totally dreamy. The double infrared sauna is a stone's throw away from the hot tub and offers the ultimate relaxation & rejuvenation. There is an outdoor shower next to the hot tub to indulge in your own hot/cold therapy. Don't even get me started on the massage & facial treatments – they were 10/10. The quality of locally sourced ingredients & exquisite homemade meals deserve a separate write-up of their own. The food was made & served with love & was of international quality every day. The selection of local wines & spirits was spot on too. Every aspect of my stay was flawless. Every guest is welcomed lovingly, and nothing is too much trouble for the hosts & employees of Maruia Retreat. I was able to totally switch off & feel looked after, but I also had plenty of quiet, restful time. Don't hesitate to book if you are looking for a luxe nature retreat – this has you more than covered.

Absolutely wonderful experience. One for the memories. This retreat is designed to be immersed into nature, surrounded by caring and attentive staff. Everything about it is 5 stars. Design of the rooms, quality of the beds made us have very restful sleep. Loved that we had our own time to use saunas including the outdoor hot tub in the forest. Pool with magnesium was something special! You can feel the water softness on your skin. We were treated with 4 course delicious healthy meals every day. Massage and facial were super relaxing and rejuvenating with the locally made essential oils. Loved the energy and knowledge provided by Cristina and Lesse during yoga sessions. Mom and I will cherish this time spent at the retreat for many years. Thank you for creating and providing such beautiful experience!

Amazing experience, Amazing location. Food was amazing. Hosts are amazing people and extremely welcoming and helpful. I can't say a single thing that was a negative. The break was very much needed and the retreat was the perfect way to spend the break.
