We booked a double bedroom room with Air Conditioning through Agoda for around $30 a night for 6 nights. This is the only “resort” in M’Pai Bay and was only completed last year. I say “completed” but it is far from being the resort they advertise. The block we were in consists of two “double” rooms either side of what seems to be an apartment with a permanent resident. It backs directly on to staff housing so there is some noise and cooking smells. On arrival, a hole was being dug outside the block, which turned out to be works replacing a generator. This caused substantial power outages the first two days of our stay, when I emailed the hotel’s contact to ask if we could be moved to another block (most of the accommodation have solar panels, and were empty bar a few rooms). I had no reply. We had intermittent power outages for the rest of our stay, and when mentioning this to the front desk staff (who had limited English) the power would miraculously come back on for a few hours. The room smelt very musty and we could often smell the drains. On arrival the fridge contained 2 small bottles of water and during our stay we were left water and toilet paper on only two occasions. Not once during our 6 night stay was our room cleaned, bins emptied or towels and bedding changed. After a few days we had an issue with small ants in the bathroom. The room was large but there were wires sticking out from the wall, empty sockets above the toilet, and tiles missing from the window sills. The doors and windows had big gaps in them which allowed mosquitos and rain in. There was no clothes drier as advertised – in fact there was nothing outside – no chairs to sit on – although the massive area of grass either side was filled with weird statues and seating areas some way away from the buildings, which no-one seemed to use. As mentioned in a previous review – they have the space for a large swimming pool, which would be a great asset. We were woken several nights by dogs barking directly outside our room. There are many dogs on the island however, and this may be a general problem. We did try the bar/restaurant which does offer fabulous views of the sunset, but the menu was very limited, there was no draft beer (although they have the pumps), no wine (as advertised on the menu), no live music (although they had a full stage set up) and the staff were pretty clueless. This place could be really nice if someone with joined-up thinking and some management skills took it over. In fairness, the holiday homes and villas may be a better option that the twin or double a/c rooms but at the moment I wouldn’t recommend a stay here.
