The Steam Packet Inn

Visited and stayed at the Steam Packet on Mother’s Day. Had a lamb roast which was delicious, staff all friendly and service was excellent. Plenty of drinks to choose from, also a selection of board games and cards, great if you need to keep little ones occupied. Stayed in one of the rooms above the pub, very clean rooms, comfy bed and pillows. Plenty of tea, coffee and bottled water. Hairdryer in room, Iron and ironing board available. Location is good, short stroll to town centre and train station is not far (walkable). This pub is under new management and so far so good. Would stay again and would recommend.

This place is lovely - we called in for a drink & ended up staying for lunch! Friendly staff, good service & good food - we really couldn’t fault it & we shall definitely be back when we are in the area. Parking seems a little limited but it’s easily walkable from Totnes town centre.

1pm booking for xmas dinner, an hour and a half later good arrrived at 2.30pm. I had to leave 3pm so rushed my dinner and no time for dessert. Unacceptable service.... Repeat after me ... Must try harder ! Wont be returning! On the up side the bar staff were pleasant. If I hadn't of been in a party of 15 I'd of legged it out of that pub / hotel

Can not recommend this hotel enough. The staff were so polite & helpful. The food was amazing & great value for money & the room was stunning. I can not wait to return to enjoy & simply relax. Absolutely fantastic.

Oh no, they've completely ruined what was a really atmospheric pub and turned it into a tacky themed pub. What a shame. Lots of cheap and nasty furnishings already looking a bit worn and no woodburner or cosiness. Will not be returning to what used to be a little gem.

Lovely location by Vire Island. It’s worth the short walk from the town centre. Good food. Lovely atmosphere and pleasant service. There was a little delay in receiving our meal but this was not a problem when the apology was so delightfully given.

Great location in Totnes, room & bed quite small, central heating not working and bathroom window jammed open, there was a portable heater which did provide adequate heating. The shower didn’t want to turn off after use, so it took some fiddling to stop the water running, and bathroom wasn’t cleaned after our first night. I feel for the price of the room breakfast should have been included.

We were looking forward to a few days away. Unfortunately we turned up at 2.30pm on a Sunday. Firstly there was no where to park and no one really seemed to care. We received a very unwelcoming reception by the bar staff who were more interested in trying to serve their lunchtime customers than greeting a couple who had just driven 4 hours from London. We couldn't order a sandwich because they were a chef down which we didn't really need to know. In the end we walked out and looked for somewhere else to eat. The whole experience was very off putting from the start and because of this we didn't to eat or drink in the pub throughout our stay. The only saving grace was that the bedroom we stayed in was nice and comfortable with a lovely view of the river. We appreciate that they were clearly under a lot of pressure but that is no excuse for being downright rude.

Thank you to all the team. You are fantastic! Happy, friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were beautifully and thoughtfully decorated with super comfy beds and pillows. Breakfasts were outstanding. Great choice and perfectly cooked. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend for a few nights stay. Very close to everything in totnes. We will be back!!
