Hotel Sonno Caliza Tulum

The rooms facing the street sound like a 24/7 war zone outside, filled with loud music, cars, honking, mopeds, trucks, ATVs, screams of pain, and barking dogs fighting. I didn't sleep for the first four nights of my week-long stay. I was then transferred to a quieter room facing the wall, which was more peaceful but had a broken AC remote. While waiting for a front desk attendant to fix this, she left my room door open for almost 40 minutes, allowing a mosquito to come in and give me 10 bites all over my body. The wifi and phone reception are very poor, but they provided me with an extender that helped a bit. There was a black out on one evening and one morning during my stay. The sink and shower water reach lukewarm temperatures but never get hot. The staff meant well and were mostly friendly and kind. When I asked for help with my bags and for them to inquire about a taxi, they assisted promptly. Communicating with the owner about my complaints was difficult due to his lack of English proficiency, and I felt he downplayed and laughed about the noise issue and lack of sleep. He didn't offer compensation but something else small that I accepted. The rooms were fairly comfortable and new, serviced daily, which I appreciated. Amenities were limited, including a small amount of towels, soaps, etc. There are no TVs. Some clean towels had small yellow or brown stains. There is no community kitchen like originally advertised which meant I was not able to reheat any of my food and I had to spend more money on food. Outside of the hotel: The hotel is located 6 blocks from the main road in Centro Tulum, with lots of broken-down, abandoned buildings, convenience stores, and restaurants closer to the strip. When eating or buying anything in Tulum, make sure to take photos of the menu prices and check your bill before paying. Many businesses and taxi cabs in this area will try to take advantage of you every chance they get. It was heartbreaking to see thousands of stray dogs, from puppies to the elderly, roam the streets tirelessly. The locals, tourists, and businesses neglect them.

The hotel is super good, the rooms are very clean, the rooms have a balcony, very good location since we have everything close by, the staff is very friendly, the pool is clean and has a spectacular view, especially in the evenings.
