Our first visit here was in 2018 and we finally got to do the return visit we promised ourselves. It was even better than we remembered. The staff are fantastic and can’t do enough for you, service is excellent. Henrietta is fantastic and arranged a jeep safari for us and a visit to the beach. She makes you feel completely at home and nothing is too much bother. The setting is fabulous and the gardens are beautiful and well maintained as is the pool. The rooms are comfortable with plenty of space and well maintained. The food is very good with top quality ingredients used to provide tasty food. We’re already planning are visit back in 2025.

As you arrive through the gates, you immediately know you have found a beautifully quiet and friendly place to stay -surrounded by lovely gardens , with superb displays of orchids and other plants and a warm personal welcome from Henrietta and the staff.A lovely main house, in which we had a superb room,with a wonderfully comfortable bed, very well equipped bathroom,lovely secluded patio area. Wonderful food every morning and evening, served with attentiveness and discretion.Oh, and we must mention the swimming pool ,which was very necessary during the hot weather and where one of us was introduced to the benefits and pleasures of aqua-aerobics There was also great advice on where to visit, what to see,variety of means of transport —we grew to love the Tuk-Tuks.Close to good beaches and to the attractive facilities of Galle, but always tranquil and secluded on return, with great opportunities to meet other guests , to talk with Henrietta and spend time with Lette ,her very friendly dachsund. Thanks to everyone at Why House .

Our room was fantastic, perfect for our family with its upstairs area for the kids and beautiful mast bedroom and bathroom. The pool is a fantastic place to relax and swim - and when they switch on the lights at night it's truly magical. We had great food and they staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful in helping us with trips to Galle or our airport transfers (even packing us a breakfast for our early departure). Thank you to everyone for a wonderful end of holiday. We hope to see you again soon.

Our room - the Garden Room - was fantastic, perfect for our family with its upstairs area for the kids and beautiful mast bedroom and bathroom. The pool is a fantastic place to relax and swim - and when they switch on the lights at night it's truly magical. We had great food and they staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful in helping us with trips to Galle or our airport transfers (even packing us a breakfast for our early departure). We wrapped up our time in Sri Lanka with 3 perfect nights staying at Why House. We felt relaxed the minute we arrived in the beautiful setting, surrounded by stunning grounds and warm hospitality. The food was an absolute highlight of our trip, with generous breakfasts and absolutely delicious and exciting dinners. Gorgeous tasteful decor, the comfiest beds, friendly helpful team always on hand. Henrietta runs a seamless place and is great company. And no review would be complete without a mention of Letti, the resident 7month dauschund, who added even more delight to our stay. Just wonderful and we hope to return one day!

Big family gathering with travellers from UK and Australia. Big age range. The hotel and grounds are gorgeous. Food was delicious and staff were amazing! We loved the cooking demonstration and the water Olympics. Easy walking distance to beautiful beach with turtles and Tuk-tuks available for trips further afield.

Wonderful stay in a dreamy hotel with wonderful staff, incredible food, and a fabulous hostess who looked after our family like royalty and kept us fully entertained both at the house and outside. Have never had a holiday like it. True luxury and fun. Thank you Why House!

My second visit and yet again, the most wonderful stay. Calm, homely, hosted by a lovely team. It was the most beautiful room I’ve ever stayed in - with an enormous bathroom! I honestly couldn’t recommend it enough. Finally the food - exquisite, local and changing dishes done to an incredibly high standard. A home away from home.

We spent three nights here at the end of February. Having spent two and a half weeks travelling around Sri Lanka, staying in various boutique hotels, we have to say that Why House is a bit special. Anyone looking to stay near Galle should really look no further. Don’t be put off that it’s outside Galle as it’s only a 20 minute tuk tuk ride from the fort and is an easy 10 minute walk from the beach where you can swim alongside turtles. If the beach is not your thing, Why House has the largest swimming pool we encountered on our trip which is set in stunning gardens full of colour and bird life. Our room was in the main house; beautifully designed, spacious and incredibly comfortable with a bathroom the size of a small London flat! The food is to die for. Creative and beautifully presented with some interesting and delicious flavour combinations; unquestionably the best of our trip. Lastly, Henrietta all the staff are charming and are integral to the easy vibe and relaxing, almost home like experience. Couldn’t recommend it more!
