Having read the other reviews, I think they must all have been younger and fitter than us. At the start I must warn others that if you have mobility issues , including heart problems, then this place is not for you. Also, I cannot review the property advertised as we were moved to another similar property nearby on arrival, due to drainage issues. Yes, our replacement property was charming and decorated in antique Italian sytle, with all mod cons, sounding very like the original, but again it was situated on the top floors of a village house so there were at least 3 staircases to get to the front door, then another narrow metal staircase to reach the indoor or outdoor dining areas. We had a balcony with a view of the town below. Breakfast was served in the sun on the outdoor roof terrace (in March!, a bonus), and the staff are very helpful and friendly. As mentioned by others, the breakfast consisted mainly of sweet things, although fresh fruit was served and cold meat, cheese or eggs were offered. Getting to the property is not for the faint-hearted either, if you are on foot from the station. The old town is of course on the top of a hill and the last third of the journey is a steep footpath so if you have luggage, take a taxi, but you then still have to negotiate this path each time you go to the main area of town below. Fortunately there was a very good small restaurant nearby, to the left of the cathedral, a choice of only two without doing the steep journey, where we were made very welcome. We normally choose unusual or quirky hotels, and were not disappointed in that aspect of the place, but we feel more warning should be given about the difficult access, both inside and outside, to avoid potential heart attacks from the older generation!
