YHA Wye Valley - Hostel

Great location for exploring Good facilities, helpful staff and clean

Accessible by canoe rental from Ross-on-Wye. Stayed overnight and had a lovely vegetarian full English breakfast. Beautiful stone building was originally the rectory for the church below. Nice indoor community rooms with lots of people playing board games, good outdoor spaces with lots of picnic tables, nature at the door, beside the Wye river.

This YH takes me back and reminds me of why I love YHA so much. Great waterside location, although tricky drive down if you are arriving by road (nothing Bryan and his team arent aware of and working to remedy). Beautiful house with a small traditional church nect door. Camping bell tents and land pods must be set in one of the nicest locations in the YHA family. The rooms probably need a refresh. Self catering facilities are good and the dining room was fine. Can only talk about the Traditional Breakfast that was great. Above all what makes any place is the warm welcome received from the staff. All lovely but a special shout out to Bryan who had loads of information to draw on together with his own hand sketched map! Thanks for that mate. We will definitely be back

This is the youth hostel to remind you what staying with YHA is all about, great vibe, comfortable rooms living space and facilities in a lovely rustic building set in a spectacular landscape on the banks of the beautiful river Wye. If you know YHA hostels you'll love this one and if you've not tried them then this is a great place to start

We stayed in one of the bell tents which are situated in a spacious green area by the river. Inside the tent there’s plenty of space for 5 beds, with bedding supplied, and nice log burner, with fuel included. There are fire pits (can buy wood) and picnic tables for use outside each tent. Portacabin toilets and drinking water nearby. You can use all the facilities of the youth hostel a 5 min walk away: hot showers, toilets, tv room, self catering kitchen and drying room. They serve a delicious full English breakfast or continental breakfast, and do evening meals too. Bryan who runs the place is very helpful and I would definitely recommend saying here. There are lots of walks you can do from here and if you have your own canoe you can access the river from the campsite. Warning - the road through the forest to get onto the site is very steep and narrow, with sharp bends and lots of potholes!

A lovely old house in a beautiful setting with views of the river Wye and a variety of walks from the hostel. It was comfortable; food was plentiful and good quality; the staff were lovely and very welcoming. The one negative is the access road, which is steep, narrow and in very poor condition. If you are a nervous driver don't attempt it. There is a small 3-space area on the RHS 10 metres into the access road where you can park up. It's then a quarter-mile walk to the hostel ..... but far better for the nerves.

Awesome YHA. Loved how remote it was, felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. Great location for riverside and woodland walks. We stayed in a Landpod with our dog and it was so warm and comfortable. All the staff were friendly and polite. Glad to hear the access road is to be improved as this was a rather scary experience driving down in a small car! The only other improvement would be some better loos by the camping facilities. Great evening meal and great breakfast too. Would definitely recommend, thanks for a lovely stay.

I'm really pleased to hear that work on the access drive is imminent as this was the only flaw. Luckily we arrived in darkness as the access driveway is terrifying. It was very a**ospheric as an approach with a young deer and mist to greet us. The staff are really friendly, the cooked breakfast spot on and the location is beautiful. We got what we went for: a good value place to stay and a comfy bed before a long walk the next day. The view from our window in the annex was lovely.

Let's be honest the whole place needs a refurbishment program. There were areas of the hostel that looked well past their best and there was fungus growing in one of the showers. In particular the drive is so pot-holed it is going to damage the shocks on vehicles if it gets any worse.
