This may be my favorite hotel I've stayed at in LA so far. The outstanding staff and thoughtful small touches make all the difference. The criticism of the rooms themselves not being totally state-of-the-art being made in other reviews is valid. It is a historical hotel, and the rooms aren't huge and don't feel particularly fresh. However I personally like the style of them and appreciate the practical layout. The bed is comfy, the HVAC works well, the shower is strong, there is a desk, there are loads of outlets everywhere, and it is quiet. What more do you need tbh? But I think this is priced in. The rates are often below $300. This is not exactly a luxury hotel, but more of a 4-4.5 star one. It is priced accordingly, and by that standard the rooms are totally adequate. Where this hotel really shines however, is the quality of the service, the countless thoughtful amenities, and the attention to detail. Every single staff member I interacted with was exceptionally friendly and well trained. If you ask them to point you to the restaurant, they walk you there. When you ask for your check at breakfast, they proactively offer you a to-go coffee on the house. When you check in, the guy makes cute dad jokes. As soon as you step off the elevator in the lobby, there is a bellman poised to assist you with luggage or anything else you need. He even speaks English, which is not the case at most hotels these days. They're attentive, competent, and friendly. My experience is other LA luxury hotels is that the staff are often indifferent and incompetent (looking at you SLS). The opposite is true here. The thing I loved is the extent to which they nailed all the small details, something most hotels skimp on since the pandemic. When you check into your room there is a note from the manager and a small gift (in my case a branded candle to take home). The room is stocked with free snacks that are actually really great (popcorn, M&Ms, kind bars, Kettle chips, Milano cookies). They have twice daily housekeeping in an era when similar hotels in this tier have in many cases eliminated daily housekeeping altogether. With the nightly turndown service, they lay out slippers, a bedside cloth, and put freshly baked cookies on your bedside table (absolutely delicious ones). The bath amenities smell delicious. It's like going back in time to before the pandemic when hotels competed on service. I booked it through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts, which included free valet parking in addition to the usual F&B credit and free breakfast. That is a great offer, as most hotels are charging $50+/night for parking these days. I will definitely stay here again on future visits to LA.
