Great pick up services and view from the room. It was clean and the owner was very kind and friendly and can communicate in English. Would like to visit once more during winter :)

Very friendly host and very cozy accommodation. Everything was clean and orderly.. The host answered all of our questions plus we really enjoyed the private onsen which was a highlight of our Japan trip. We loved that we got a free ride going to the Snow Monkeys :)

It was a highly traditional experience to stay at Shimaya - a true ryokan. A most welcoming host who spoke some English - he drove guests for free to the snow monkey park in the morning. Good value, simple breakfast, a quiet place. Good selection of restaurants nearby.

Amazing hotels! It's a must book! We stayed here in May 2024. The customer service was really great and they even gave us a car ride to the monkey park. The room was fantastic and had an amazing view. I would highly recommend if you're coming to see the snow monkeys, to book this hotel!

Wonderful place to stay with such accomdating people. The room was super spacious and clean. Plus the views from the balcony were amazing. It was so nice to relax at the onsite onsen at the end of the day. I'm excited to come back when I'm in the area again. I would highly recommend it, a great price for an excellent stay! The owner even took a picture with us and sent a follow up email with it attached. Made it such a memorable experience.

The accommodation was amazing value for money. The futons were very comfy with the pillows were soft. There are three indoor hot springs you can use: one private, one public for men and another public for women. The onsen was refreshing and you can easily adjust the temperature. The host, Mr. Yumoto was extremely helpful and kind. He also fetched us for free to the snow monkey park. Definitely worth a stay if you want the quality ryokan experience at a budget.

Cozy and traditional Ryokan with the most caring and hospitable hosting couple I’ve ever encountered. They very incredibly helpful in helping us getting around in the area. The private Onsen is very cozy and has an amazing view. We would come back every time!

Truly amazing stay. The owners are so welcoming. The beds are very comfortable and the bed linens so soft. The baths are beautiful, private and quiet. Breakfast was accompanied by a cheerful automatic piano every morning. We were able to borrow snow boots for our trek to see the Snow Monkeys. Shimaya felt like home away from home.
