I have stayed here previously also and always found it to be warm comfortable and incredibly relaxing. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are so cozy its hard to get up for breakfast. The breakfast is so worth it when you do with lots of choices and cooked perfectly. Clare and Craig are brilliant hosts and full of good advice/ knowledge about the area. Its easy to spend an hour or two chatting at the well stocked bar. Always the first place i check when staying in the lakes.

However , the accommodation could be best described as BASIC with dated furniture and fixtures & fittings and soft well worn mattresses in the bedrooms. A standard basic full english breakfast is served , but dont expect a choice of how your eggs are cooked , its either fried eggs or nothing. A welcoming roaring log fire accompanies the guests at breakfast along with homemade cake by the fireside in the evening . There are no TV's to be seen anywhere in the accomodation , nor a radio of any kind , to compound this lack of communication the wifi reception is very unstable . Its the kind of place that most guests appreciate with the silence and tranquility and various species of birdlife and wildlife can be seen in the garden area. However , its the 45% year on year increase that I find disappointing. 2019 prices were £30 per person per night for 2 people in a double or twin room or £35 for single occupancy in a double room. For 2021 this has increased to £50 per person , or £100 per room for a couple . This represents a massive 45% year on year increase !! The proprietor , Mrs. Keren Lockwood maintains that prices are going up . Agreed , prices are indeed increasing , inflation is currently running at about 4% , Mrs. Lockwood , not 45% !!! I would suggest that your sons , Nimrod , Hawthorne and Cameron had some input into this massive price hike , but for £100 per night there is a surplus of superior accommodation available in the Northern Lakes , should customers feel they want an upgrade to what Mrs . Lockwood can offer for the same price.

What a fabulous hotel, so very relaxing and quiet. Easy drive, yet away from the main tourist hubs of the Lake District. We really enjoyed our two night stay there. The service and food are outstanding...especially Marilyn who took a few minutes to chat to us each morning. The room (a superior) was called Castle Cragg had a double aspect with lovely views and a small balcony. It was spacious and well equipped. We were given the option of a £5 bar credit if we did not have the room serviced - a great incentive to cut down on cleaning/changing towels/staffing. Breakfast had a great choice of hot options and dinner was outstanding - service level was just right without being fussy and rushed. There is a comprehensive fine list too, If you opted for the 3 course dinner you also enjoyed an Amuse Bouche and tea/coffee following your meal. The hotel has a lovely location with lots of walks straight from the door - we walked through to the lakeside at Manesty and also did Catbells on a circular walk. There is a boat service on the lake at Manesty that will take you into Keswick or on a circular tour around the lake, however due to high water levels it wasn't operating from the jetty's only from Keswick. Just a couple of 'things' that need work - the exterior could do with painting as it looks quite shabby, although with the Lake District weather this will be a challenge. There is also a smoking shelter/fire meeting point in the car park there are old wicker chairs and cushions that look like they came from the refurbishment, the area would look better if these were removed.

Lovely old Victorian building with cosy contemporary rooms, an intimate bar, spacious comfy lounge and dining area with added entertainment in the shape of a busy bird feeder. The evening meals are simply top notch, with a five course set menu to make you groan with pleasure! And the breakfasts are similarly wonderful. We felt very spoiled. Full marks, chef! The staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. We had some initial difficulty with the car charging port - there is a rather complicated method of getting the darn thing to work - but we got there in the end. Highly recommended. Go.

Set in a beautiful location, not far from the lake and village, and surrounded by the mountains. The hostel is accessible by bus and you can take many pleasant bus rides through the Lake District from here. However, it is the help we received from the staff (as is the case at all YHA hostels I've been to) at this hostel that really stood out during our stay. After realising we would be unable to continue our journey to another nearby YHA hostel, the staff were able to accommodate us at YHA Buttermere for the remainder of our trip. In general, the staff are very friendly, polite and give excellent customer service. The YHA is a wonderful organisation with a great mission and history. They deserve to be more well known.

I have stayed here previously also and always found it to be warm comfortable and incredibly relaxing. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are so cozy its hard to get up for breakfast. The breakfast is so worth it when you do with lots of choices and cooked perfectly. Clare and Craig are brilliant hosts and full of good advice/ knowledge about the area. Its easy to spend an hour or two chatting at the well stocked bar. Always the first place i check when staying in the lakes.

I was travelling with my family, 3 young adults and myself. We loved staying at this hotel. The location is a nip across the road to Keswick town centre. The views from the windows are stunning. The staff were friendly and remembered our preferences at breakfast. The breakfast was delicious and had well thought choices to make us eager to go down in the morning. I paid 6 pounds for the car park which was just behind the hotel and easy to get to. I would stay here again.

Peaceful farm location overlooking Lake Bassenthwaite and the surrounding Northern Fells. However , the accommodation could be best described as BASIC with dated furniture and fixtures & fittings and soft well worn mattresses in the bedrooms. A standard basic full english breakfast is served , but dont expect a choice of how your eggs are cooked , its either fried eggs or nothing. A welcoming roaring log fire accompanies the guests at breakfast along with homemade cake by the fireside in the evening . There are no TV's to be seen anywhere in the accomodation , nor a radio of any kind , to compound this lack of communication the wifi reception is very unstable . Its the kind of place that most guests appreciate with the silence and tranquility and various species of birdlife and wildlife can be seen in the garden area. However , its the 45% year on year increase that I find disappointing. 2019 prices were £30 per person per night for 2 people in a double or twin room or £35 for single occupancy in a double room. For 2021 this has increased to £50 per person , or £100 per room for a couple . This represents a massive 45% year on year increase !! The proprietor , Mrs. Keren Lockwood maintains that prices are going up . Agreed , prices are indeed increasing , inflation is currently running at about 4% , Mrs. Lockwood , not 45% !!! I would suggest that your sons , Nimrod , Hawthorne and Cameron had some input into this massive price hike , but for £100 per night there is a surplus of superior accommodation available in the Northern Lakes , should customers feel they want an upgrade to what Mrs . Lockwood can offer for the same price.
