"The hotel facilities, especially the indoor pool and spa was exceptional. The recent full refurbishment of this hotel is excellent. The outdoor terrace is fantastic for drinks. A truly luxurious experience, supported by wonderfully friendly staff. Use the hotel's electric bicycles to go for a cycles along the river. Breakfast was wonderful, too! Only criticism: Its hard to know where to go when you arrive. Some information before arrival would have been helpful. (You need to pull up to the big wooden gate and press the intercom)"

"Spacious room, spacious bathroom with very good shower, and great breakfast. Very well located, it is possible to stroll around and see the tourist attractions on foot. Parking is a little difficult and I didn't use it; because I found a spot on the street and stayed there. As it was Saturday, there was no need to pick it up; but on Monday street until Saturday at noon, payment is required."

"Covelo …The original rooms , accommodation was in an excellent location , close to all the local amenities and attractions. The local bus depot was just around the corner and within easy walking distance. The cobblestone street itself had lots of bars ,restaurants , bakeries and shops, and is in fact , over 1,000 years old. The accommodation was very well presented. It was spotless clean and had all the facilities that would be needed for our short stay. The room was cleaned on a regular basis and toiletries and towels replaced. The small balcony allowed us to sit outside with our coffee in the morning, and enjoy a glass of wine outside in the evening. Our host Joao greeted us when we arrived. He was very friendly and informative. He spent some time with us, highlighting the local activities, places of interest and recommending local bars and restaurants. Nothing was too much trouble for Joao. We would most definitely go back to Amarante, we were very happy with our room, and would also stay in the same accommodation . We found that not only was the accommodation reasonably priced, but the same must be said for everything else in the city, including the food and the wine."

"We had a teeny room, the parking was far from the hotel which made it hard for my husband who uses a cane, and the hotel was far from the town. Plus there was a car race that went by the hotel all day and was going to be there the next day also. We left after a night and the hotel told us they would refund us for the second night but they never did."

"We booked 2 nights but wish we had booked more! Lovely room, comfortable bed and good shower! There was a balcony with table & chairs for enjoying the birdsong. Breakfast was delicious as was their “homegrown” wine. The gardens are beautiful (even though we were put of season). Our host, Rita, was a font of info and a genuinely lovely person. Maria (the kitty) was super friendly and welcoming. We used the laundry service and received our clean, dry and folded washing 24 hours later. Everything was just perfect! Highly recommend."

"Tiny place that doesn't have an elevator. If you have mobility issues, don't stay at this place. Dark stairs. The light is delayed in turning on so you have to walk in the dark first before it turns on - accident waiting to happen. There is no ground/first floor room. The lowest level room will still require you to walk up a narrow flight of stairs. The owner can't handle honest reviews and will call you if you give his property less than 5 stars and lie about you as guest. I wrote an honest review for ******* and the owner wrote back to state that I "broke" hotel rules. I have been travelling for decades and have never broken any hotel rules."

"From 0 to 10, I give it 11! Mr António was very helpful, he gave us a taste of the excellent wine that is produced on the farm and which is worth buying. Breakfast in a basket, delivered to your room door, very good and the amenities in the room/house are excellent. Very calm area, the outdoor pool is spectacular, and the indoor pool too, in addition to the games room, which I thought was great. We were advised by Mr António, some restaurants in the region, and by chance we chose a very good one both in terms of quality and price: Restaurante "Pobre Tolo". We are not ones to repeat stays, but we will probably return one day. Thank you very much "
