Brickyard Retreat at Mutianyu

Such a peaceful getaway. Our villa was lovely and very well appointed with amazing views of the mountains. Staff are so nice and helpful. Feel like the description and pictures online don’t fully convey just how great this hotel is. Also, this is one of my favourite sections of the Great Wall and so convenient to be able to get to the hotel (and Wall) easily by taxi for around 170¥ from central Beijing. Highly recommend.

Absolutely incredible experience! Breathtaking villa which was way bigger than I believed from the pictures, view of the wall from the living room, fully equipped kitchen, and amazing service. We ended up arriving very late (midnight) and Richard(?) was there to welcome us and went out of his way to make us feel welcome, help us with our bags, and help my mother out of the car + light her way in the dark. We received the choice of breakfast buffet (in Brickyard) or a packed picnic breakfast for us to cook in the villa. We originally said we wanted the buffet but after seeing the villa, we did not want to leave and asked to switch to the picnic. They did not disappoint! Pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage, lettuce, yoghurt, and fruit to feed a small army! 1000% recommend. We were so sad to only be staying one day. The staff is so friendly and really go out of their way to make us feel welcome, even providing shuttles to and from the wall, keeping our luggage safe, giving us extra bottles of water for the trip back to Beijing, and even helping us send our souvenirs home by the post. Worth every penny!

Beautiful hotel just an hour outside Beijing. Book the suite and get cozy by the wood fire. You won't be disappointed!

It’s a beautiful boutique hotel in a very beautiful individual design and it feels like home. The room was comfortable warm, which was very nice as it was very cold outside. To get to the restaurant you have to go through the courtyard. The breakfast was delicious. On one day we had, as we were one of very few guests during the week, a plate with western breakfast, very tasty and beautifully arranged. The other day a tasty buffet with Western and Chinese breakfast. The service (hotel and restaurant) was very friendly and supportive. My friend tested the Jacuzzi which she found lovely. She tested the sauna as well (you need to tell the receptionist 40min before you like to start), it was ok. It’s small and part of a massage room. We had an aromatherapy TCM massage and it was one of the best we had for a long time. Lucy is an expert. We had a very relaxed time and explored the nature. And it’s only 15 min walk to the entrance of Mutianyu Great Wall.

A lovely, peaceful hotel with a great view of the wall and helpful staff who even offered to drive us to the wall entrance. Great amenities and facilities- particularly enjoyed the hot springs looking out into the mountains. The picture shows the view from one of their terraces.

The place to be when visiting Mutianyu Great Wall! Peaceful Beigou neighborhood in the Huairou district, and a must-visit cafe within walking distance. But best of it all is the out-of-this-world hospitality rendered by the staff of the Brickyard. Having experienced top notch customer service standards from the Swiss and the Japanese, this one from Mutianyu must rank among the top! We were unfortunate enough to be hit with a viral flu from the freezing Heilongjiang weather, and we arrived at the Brickyard all under the weather. The staff kindly drove us to a nearby pharmacy to get medication, brought us additional room warmers, delivered to us warm breakfasts because we couldn’t make it to the restaurant, also gave us two days worth of pastries and food supplies so we could warm them up whenever we needed, and gave us three cartons (96 bottles!!!) of drinking water.. in truth, I don’t recall any hotel experience that goes such extra distances for guests who are sick. Because of their dedication to ensure we still have the best possible experience at the Brickyard, we eventually got well enough and made it up the Great Wall on Day 4! Such extremely warm hospitality definitely prevented what could have easily been a miserable 3 night stay and turned it into a truly memorable one!

Zack was very enthusiastic to greet us and helpful with our room arrangement during our stay. Knowing that my 3 aunts dare not stay at a more remote triple share Villa away from the rest of us who are staying in double occupancy rooms, he arranged for a room with a super king sized bed for the three of them. 杨春燕 at the restaurant was also very friendly and helpful. She offered my mum apple juice when she realised she wasn’t feeling well and asked the chef to cook a celery dish when we asked for celery for my mum to lower her blood pressure. The dishes she recommended were delicious too. The rooms had an awesome view of the Mutianyu Great Wall and intentionally lacks a TV so we can digitally detox and enjoy the view. We’ll be back next winter!
