"Beautiful old building and gardens but unfortunately it’s not well maintained. The older rooms are good sizes but tatty, we had cobwebs and dust in the bathroom plus mildew on bedroom and bathroom windows. However the linen was lovely quality and it wąs quiet and warm for an older building. We won’t be returning."

"We came here as a family for Mother’s Day, the service was brilliant & very friendly staff. We ordered a Sunday lunch and it was the best one I have had for a long time! Beef was cooked perfectly, lots of choice of veg, homemade Yorkshire puddings & good portions! I will definitely be going back."

"The main building was pretty good. Compared to the main building, the rooms besides the courtyard where we lived in were rather basic. Everything was good enough apart from the heating system and toilet. The floor and toilet were pretty freezing. Fortunately, the lady in the reception brought us a small heater. It did help. Also, the flush of the toilet couldn't work properly."

"I wanted a few days of peace on my own in a familiar area, where I was 'looked after'. The Bear fufilled all those wishes. The beautiful rustic charm of this long-historied building was delightful and clearly popular with local people and families, who found their food needs amply catered for. I loved the individual decor of my bedroom. Chris, managing The Bear, was friendly and helpful, as was everyone I met who worked there. The breakfasts were excellent and kept me going for the 2 days of walking I had planned. All the food was really good, of a high standard without being expensive. I enjoyed comfortable evenings tucked into a cosy corner, taking in the atmosphere while 'doing my own thing' sipping a good wine. I have recommended The Bear to friends and will return myself."
