I stayed in the hotel 3 nights. I think my rating would have been very different was I given a different room. I checked-in around 4pm, you pay at check-in. Then I went upstairs, saw the room and went back down to the reception to explain my concerns (room size, how to turn on the heater and height of roller-blind) and asked if they happened to have another room available, but they didn’t. The staff was kind and professional and you could see they wanted to do their best job and make guests happy, as a matter of fact my complaint is aimed at owners/management because the staff cannot change rooms. Positive: The purpose of the hotel, it’s a place where training is provided for workers to be reintroduced to work. Location (beautiful and authentic neighbourhood, not too touristy + 10 minute walk to Bryggen and the Fløibanen. Everything was walking distance and the area feels safe for a woman travelling alone. Nice common areas. Good savoury breakfast. They had plant-based milk at breakfast if you asked for it (another guest used it, too, so it’d be good to leave it outside as an option all the time). They serve free waffles to the guests in the afternoon every day. Negative: At breakfast there isn’t anything sweet (no pastries or even a strawberry jam so you can put some on bread with butter). The room was claustrophobically small and uncomfortable to move in, you’ve got to walk over your bags and there was little to no space to put clothes/belongings. There’s not a photo of it anywhere on the website / booking portals and it’s not difficult to understand why. The booking details stated I’d have a single bed, so I don’t know why there was double (which would have been great had it not taken up 90% of the space). It wasn’t a proper double bed with a headboard, but 2 singles together with a thin double mattress which dropped in the middle. It felt like sleeping in a sofa bed, I had to sleep close to the wall because of the drafts of cold air coming in from the window just behind your neck. There wasn’t a bedside table/shelf to put things on. The room was freezing cold when I arrived, the only radiator was off (set to 16 degrees), it was 4 degrees outside. The old window isn’t suitable for the Norwegian wind or the noise coming from the road. There is no cosy/charming atmosphere in the room, the furniture hasn’t been arranged in a convenient manner, it feels like a storage room where a bed has been randomly put. Not even a decorative cushion. On the tv there isn’t any channel, you can use it by connecting it to your Netflix etc (this is explained in the room information). The cord to pull the roller blind up/down is fixed so high that I needed to stand on the bed each time. To have some daylight and see the view you had to pull it up, but then everyone saw inside (1st floor). Curtains (a dark set, and a transparent/light set) would be better. The bathroom sometimes smelled bad. When I first arrived there was a previous guest’s (I guess) long hair stu
