This place is big. As you approach it you think it's a town. To walk around it, it feels like a town. I don't know what the capacity of it is, but there's a lot of people there. As everyone arrives on a bus, the reception gets swamped and check-in is slow. I would use the RIU app before arriving and use the priority queue once there. A bell boy will take your suitcase to your room, which is a big help. Room's are quite nice. Clean, with everything you need. Tea and coffee maker plus a fridge. Plenty of complimentary water. One point to note, as water is precious the toilets are flushed with grey water, which makes them smell like drains. As the toilet is in a room on its own you can just shut the door. It's not an issue. Air con and a ceiling fan keep you cool. The dining experience can be very busy. It's a buffet set-up and all the food is well labelled, but there is no allergen info, so you need to ask. Plenty of choice, you certainly won't starve. Everything was nice and freshly made. One thing I didn't like was their choice of sausages. They're the hotdog type that you can get in a jar. Otherwise, breakfast, lunch and dinner was all good. There are a lot of staff, so service is great. They've been trained well. No complaints there. Evening entertainment was hit and miss, but overall it wasn't bad. There are shops on site selling the essentials and gifts. The pools are nice and a good size. They also never really got crowded, despite the numbers of people there. Sunbeds are all around and mostly in good condition. I only saw a couple of broken ones the whole week. There's a beach with palm trees and sunbeds if you prefer, but it's a bit of a walk from the main complex. The sea was too rough for swimming in though. If I'm going to have a moan, then it's regarding the signage. At the entrance to the main pool is a sign stating ”inflatables and ball games are not allowed”, however, there's a shop on site selling inflatables and footballs. These can only be used at the pool, which is a complete contradiction. Plus, the usual gripe about people reserving sunbeds and then going for breakfast. Again, a sign asks you not to, but it's never enforced. If you like all inclusive holidays on a grand scale then this should do you nicely. I'd recommend a week's stay as any longer could start to feel a bit repetitive.

First time visiting the RIU karamboa and what a experience it was. From checking in to leaveing the staff have been nothing but friendly, the cleaners, receptionists, bar staff, entertainers etc..... All very polite, happy going people. The food is amazing, such a variety aswell. Food I've never had and it was spot on. The pool bar staff are the most entertaining people you will ever meet, bar opens at 10:30am and from opening to close they are always smiling, laughing and singing to the music, they just make you feel so welcome. The hotel it self is 5* rated and we've had a 5*service throughout, amazing 10 days we've had and will definitely be returning when the new refurb has happened. Obrigada :)

The Iberostar hotel is very nice garden in the middle of dessert/savanna land. There is beautifull beach, but the sea is nearly impossible to swim due to big waves. So unles you are competetion level swimmer, you can only waddle to wet your knees. (Im a good swimmer and struggled really bad, the waves knocked me down and around...) You can go on trip to snorkel or visit Sal rei, where the watter is calm. The hotel consists of separate ”tiny homes” in two levels and you walk to the restaurant and reception, which may be problem for elderly or hurt people (not me). The food is excellent, but one needs to remember thats its africa, so any mistake can and probably will have consequences. My father got violently ill third day and we had to call doctor to the hotel, who gave him two IVs and saved him, but he spent the rest of holidy in room and I had to be nearby. The hotel manager was helpfull and allowed us late check out for free, but there was high cost of the medical care, so I strongly reccomend high level travel insurance.
