Really nice stay with family. Good facilities, pools and outdoors. Food and drinks really good and a lot of variety. Staff excellent, really nice and available. The rooms starts showing need for modernisation.

衞生間設施簡陋，豪華雙人間居然門都沒有。陽台上晾衣物不方便，客房太小。環境和服務不錯，一日三餐全包且味道不錯，停車方便。

Brilliant hotel lovely staff great food literally couldn’t fault it even gave us a free upgrade which was amazing. Amazing views of the beach buffet was great and the Italian restaurant even better. One of the best hotels we have stayed in. Perfect for chilling all day and then have entertainment and singers on of a night even in January which was great. Free bus into Funchal was also another great service

Very friendly hotel, clean and comfortable and relaxed. Staff are fantastic especially the customer services manager, Karina who is so helpful booking trips etc. If you are staying full board then the hotel will prepare a packed lunch for you, just let reception know the day before.

We had a fabulous holiday at this excellent hotel. It’s old fashioned in a comfortable opulent way. Staff are happy and helpful. Rooms small but adequate. Food was very good and we’re foodies. Drinks also great, especially the Help Yourself red, white, rose & Prosecco bar! Swimming pools clean & easy to walk into. Our only disappoin**ent was the entertainment, music was very outdated. We’re in our late sixties & it was too old for us. This is not a hotel for the younger generation. It needs to liven up quite a bit, but then again any music is better than nothing.

What a wonderful hotel. The staff are all excellent always smiling and giving an excellent service, nothing is too much trouble for them. There is always plenty of choice at meal times and the hotel is spotless. We must also give an extra special mention to Karina, Customer Relations and Eduardo the Jet2 Rep who went out of their way to ensure that we had a wonderful holiday. We hope to be back in the not too distant future. Beautiful room 1113.

Overall the Pestana Royal is a lovely hotel but not 5 star,more like a 3* The reception staff are lovely and very helpful. A glass of madeira wine is offered on arrival. They do their best to accommodate you . Everywhere is spotlessly clean. The buffet restaurant has a good choice of food. Most drinks are self service, with coffee machines and drink dispensers serving beer and soft drinks at the pool bar and lounge areas. The pool bar serves cocktails, spirits, wine and beer. The evening entertainment varies from very good to pretty average. There is a lack of dress code in the restaurants ,it is very casual. We felt over dressed most evenings. Shorts,vests and flip flops were acceptable. NOT what you expect for a five star hotel. The Pestana group need to invest some money in to this hotel. The carpets in the rooms are threadbare, the fixtures and fittings are very dated and the towels are not what you expect for a 5 star hotel, they are very thin and hard. Apart from the lounge bar and entertainment area all other public areas are more modern and better quality. The bus stop is right outside and is very frequent. It takes you in to the centre of Funchal. I would stay here again if the rooms were refurbished.

Visited the Pestana Royal in April for a week. We are aware of the area in Funchal as having stopped at the Pestana Grand in the past and had decided to try the all inclusive Royal this time. An excellent holiday. The room had a sea view and was clean, well equipped with fridge, microwave and usual tea and coffee/ kettle . The buffet meals were constantly good with plenty of choice, specially of fish dishes and the wine included in the package was also good. The hotel grounds were well kept, the heated outdoor pool well used and the indoor pool and gym area good. Uniquely for the area , the hotel has a lift down to the promenade, and there is a twice daily free shuttle bus into and from Funchal although the hotel is on the regular bus route and the trip into town is only 1.90 Euro Finally the staff were excellent. The room service staff friendly, reception very efficient and the restaurant staff both friendly and efficient, with everyone having a very good command of English. We will definitely return.

Lovely ambience in this hotel. Food very good with lots of choice. Rooms good and we had a lovely sea view even though not sold as such. All immaculately clean and well looked after. Staff very helpful without exception. Our only downside was the drinks. With the all inclusive package our favourite cocktails were no longer available and the wine served in the restaurant was very poor to the point of being almost undrinkable. We didn’t drink much alcohol at all! But excellent value for money all the same.
