Stayed at Porta Mare hotel in the Residence wing of the hotel. Absolutely gorgeous hotel, amazing gardens, pools (indoor and out). Lovely spacious rooms with small kitchen and fridge if needed. All the Staff from reception, dining room and cleaning staff very welcoming and friendly. Holiday via Jet2 who again were exception especially the staff at the airports both Manchester and Funchal. Hotel a little out from the main Funchal centre but bus stop outside takes you into city centre for €1.95(bus no1 and 2.) Dining room area both inside and out. Food not quite up to the stardard of the rest of the hotel. All though it wasn't bad but it wasn't 4Star plus. Main carvery part consisted of one chef carving one or 2 choices of meat, while the other mains were pre sliced in trays. Veg looked a bit like tinned carrots and food trays not topped up regularly. A bit like a pub calvery at home. There were 2 Restaurants which you could use with a €17 credit which had to be pre booked. Pool bar served food and drinks which wasn't to expensive and were good quality. Evening entertainment most night usually a musician or singer. Hotel did have a lovely shady orchid garden with seats All in All the best hotel I've stayed in by far. As mentioned the food was good but not excellent but I didn't starve. We Will be booking again for later in year

25 Years in Madeira. First five at Cliff Bay, all the rest in the Resdence. Each visit has been excellent, Excellent location, excellent accommodation, excellent cleanliness, excellent staff, excellent food and great choices. It is a delight to spend 2 months each year in the Residence and Madeira.

Gods location and hotel near to the bars and restaurants and easy 30 min walk to Funchal. Be careful with room choice as some the hotel is large and we had a 7 min walk to and from the room. Rooms a little tired but very clean and well appointed with good sized balcony. Breakfast was good and well organised with options for seating and food excellent. Evening entertainment was not our cup of tea. The general age of guests is older.

Great location on the lido. We had an apar**ent and enjoyed comfort this offered plus the hotel facilities.

We loved the apartement, it was bigger and better than expected. The pool area was lovely, never crowded and always a cosy corner to relax. Beautiful orchid garden, great pool bar and the whole athmosphere was just excellent. We will never look for another hotel in Madeira, this one was just perfect.

Arrived on 13th, to be told apar**ent was ready, this was at 011.00, thank you Claire, who in an email stated she would try to accommodate Apar**ent perfect as always Enjoyed a leisurely lunch by the pool in the Lido restaurant, Caprice salad was delicious. Absolutely nothing to complain about at this resort

Up to usual standards. Clean, comfortable and tidy. Would be very useful to have a walking street map of Funchal.

There are no negatives to this hotel. Clean, modern, well maintained. Spacious, well equipped comfortable rooms. Extensive grounds and gardens with all the facilities couples and mature travellers could want. Location excellent, just out of the centre in a peaceful area with many nearby facilities. A rare combination.
