Catembe Gallery Hotel

Apart from the lovely view that the hotel offers, everything else was pretty average.. The staff were more interested in each other's company than helping out their guests.. Breakfast staff Ignore you when u ask for butter, and tell you to make your own toast, once they have already brought you the hot breakfast which consists of 2 eggs, a cold piece of ham, a mini heavily processed vienna and a tomatoe.. The pool guy threw heaps of chlorine and chemicals into the pool at 9.45am when I ask him to hold on for a bit so that I can have a quick swim before my 10am departure. He refused and said it's his cleaning time and we must wait till later, mmmm they need to learn a lot about service in this place. The receptionist was probably the best of them all, although we had to sit around waiting for the computers to come online when trying to check in.. Our room was small and the basin was cracked right through. The changeroom toilet seat was also chipped, which prevented me from sitting on it. My patio door could not lock due to misalignment and forced a chair against it to try secure it for the night. The on site parking advertised which we reserved when booking, was actually on street parking, although I did see a guard on duty. I tried to use the free paddle skis, but because I only had a credit card and not enough physical cash on me for a breakage deposit my daughter and I were unable to go paddling. If you're interested in using the kayaks be sure to bring R1000 cash per person... Ps. The beach area was awesome...

Nice hotel, great staff, good service, great location and delicious food! We really loved it all. But…renovations/repairs are urgently needed. Large damp spots in the room due to problems in the bathroom. The toilet leaks water every time you flush. Same when using the sink. The sockets also need to be reviewed. There could be a few more and maybe a USB port too.

Excellent restaurant, friendly and very helpful staff. This is a 3 star hotel and so not all ammenities are available (some rooms are a bit cramped for example), but the overall impression is exceptional. And the views across the Bay to the City are unique. The bridge across the Bay of Maputo has made this hotel much more accessible. We noticed a lot of people came in for the dinners. However, we spent Chris**as there and the hotel had a wide selection of guests including families from Maputo. When locals are clients you can be assured that the venue is great. The restaurant had a good choice of food - although we concentrated on the seafood of which Mozambique is famous.

through a toll gate over Maputo bridge, the road (via Google Maps) leads you to a dusty meander of dirt road (if wet, is a nigh**are without an SUV), for about 20min which would make anyone second guess their decision of booking at Gallery Hotel, but as the road ends and you see your destination on the right, you're still not convinced, until you step in. From the moment you exit the car, the security guard ensures you're parked well for your stay. The reception and service is hospitable, local, and professional. The authentic look of the building already makes you forget the dirt road travelled. A small gallery of rememberance to Samora Micheal helps you understand the importance of this icon and freedom fighter. A welcoming drinks helps from the heat, but adds to the pleasant invite. A sea side upgrade is always welcomed, as your balcony is no stranger to crashing waves, and shaded palm trees. Sandra, Nelson, and Julio, took personal care and interest in our banter and questions about the hotel and surrounds. An excellent, mouth watering, and well priced menu had us in the Marisol restaurant every night. The hotel courtyard is set up in a way that evokes community and sense of privacy. Should you find yourself in Maputo district, this gem on the other side +-40min away is work the stay. I'd rate it 6stars. Aasief and Zureenah, Cape Town, South Africa

I stayed with 4 friends in one of the penthouses, which has a spacious kitchen and living room. The huge balcony is a great place to enjoy the view of the beach as well as Maputo Bay and the skyline. One of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen! The resort has a unique style that gives it a cozy a**osphere. Combined with the great staff and especially the funny bartender, we felt right at home! On top, the Marisol Restaurant in the hotel serves a delicious breakfast and the best seafood I've ever tasted. I highly recommend the king prawns and the seafood pasta! I really love this place and hope to come back soon to see the new bar in the sea!

Excellent hotel in a beautiful environment. We slept in a very spacious suite with a kitchen equipped with a big American-style fridge, a huge flatscreen Smart Tv. The hotel is located at the beach and has a beautiful baia- restaurant in the sea. The hotel also has an excellent restaurant where you can get delicious grilled fish and good meat. The personnel is really friendly and helpful. The wifi is good, you can stream Netflix without any problems. The terrace offers a beautiful view of Maputo city, which is beautifully illuminated at night. The sunrise is a moment not to miss and offers very “instagrammable” pictures. In general I loved my stay there and I will definitely go back!

I booked 1 night in the Chalet Room With my girlfriend. Upon arrival I am informed the Jacuzzi is not working. I was compensated with dinner. However, I also did not have working sinks either and there was no shower in the room. The description of the room says "private bathroom". In reality it is a private toilet only. The room has it's own wifi access but I was not able to connect on either my phone or tablet. Fortunately they offered me access to a second room to shower in the morning and access to the main hotel wifi to conduct my business. The bed was NOT a king bed, it was 2 twin beds next to each other and the were very UNcomfortable. The middle of the bed were the 2 mattresses meet was very hard as they were the edges of the 2 mattresses and it was impossible to lay together because the mattresses kept separating. This made it extremely difficult for any "romance". There was no temperature controls in the room. The room temp was about 41* and there was a window above the jacuzzi that would not shut and had no hardware to close it which kept the room cold. The description of the room also says there are "blackout" drapes but there was a fog light just outside of the patio which kept the room fairly well illuminated. Not to mention the lights going to the room were all not functional. From the pool down the stairs, around the walkway and in between the buildings was solid black. very unsafe for any guest in dangerous JNB. no shuttle offered. Ants consumed my dinner.
