Holiday Inn Express ABERDEEN CITY CENTRE by IHG ★★★
"First impressions. Checked in. The receptionist told me room 204. I asked if on second floor. (Sounds simple but if you have travelled alot some places have ground floor at street level and other call that first floor. Numbering then can get confusing.) Yes was the reply. Second floor. Wrong. Third floor. Not room 2xx, room 3xx. Handwritting on card holder was not very clear. Border line illegible. Solution. Take time or use a printer. Room was OK for cost. Breakfast was very poor. Breakfast rolls were stale. Croissants also stale. (One of the best bakers in Aberdeen is exactly opposite the hotel.) Bacon appeared to be of good quality but was cold and rubbery. When it was cooked and how long it had been on the buffet is not know. I know it was too long. Sausages, scrambled eggs and baked Beans were also cold, watery or just been out too long. The hash browns were really bad. Coffee was weak, orange juice had a tinny taste. Table design was poor. All of them seemed to be unstable. (Base way smaller than table, single leg, many had paper napkins stuffed under the bases attempting to stabilise the poor design. This is not very hygienic. Solution. If you can't replace them get larger bases and attach to single leg."

"Great value for money and location, location, location! Aberdeen House is fantastic value for money. I stayed for 3 nights on the second floor, the room was clean, comfortably warm and despite being located on a major road the outdoor noise was minimal and did not disturb sleep. Staff were helpful and offered to clean the room daily. There is a kettle, tea, coffee and sachets of uht milk and sugar in the room. What makes Aberdeen House stand out is it's location, directly opposite the train and intercity coach station and around the corner from the ferry terminal for the Orkney and Shetland Isles. It is also directly opposite Union Square Shopping Mall with international brand shops and wide choice of cafes and restaurants and a Cineworld cinema. There are also a wide range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants nearby."

"The Chester is close to town and a quality hotel that we suspect would be rated higher if it had the gym and pool and spa that many five star hotels have. But, they are not needed. The room was a good size, with all necessary facilities. The common areas of the restaurant are of high standard and the food was excellent. Our room had a couple of minor issues. The shower door leaked a littlw, but caused no problem. The deadlock on the door dod not engage, but we were not concerned as there was a locked door between our door and the public areas. We will happily use again, particularly as the prices were reasonable and the standards and quality were very good in our experience."

"We recently went on a family trip and stayed for two nights, making two separate bookings. On the last night, the receptionist informed us that our room was not included for children. However, the website clearly stated that children under 12 stay for free. I didn't want to argue in front of the kids, but despite the receptionist's smile, we didn’t feel welcomed at all. Unfortunately, we won't be returning."

"Everyone was so polite Room incredibly clean and cleaned again for just two night stay Quiet for doing work Breakfast fine and with an opportunity to take away Pint of Guinness for five something quid Pizza all day for ten Good WiFi Five minutes literally to airport Two minutes to bus stop that takes you to the centre There is a pub very close about 100 m but I did not go as I had my pint at the hotel"

"The room was not clean. This was politely flagged. It was not corrected. After face to face reporting at the desk twice and then online to the survey with no improvement over 3 days I gave up. I couldn’t stay there again. Covered in other people’s hair. Dirty splotches on TV, bedside table, and food stuck on ironing board. Chair was coated in hair and food crumbs until day 2. Carpet was not vacuumed prior to or during our stay. All in, it was a pretty grotty experience that I’m looking forward to putting behind me. Car parking is good. Staff were friendly on check in. Breakfast and dinner food was fine. That’s about all I can add that’s positive."
