KAMENOI HOTEL ASO ★★★★

📍 5936 Ichinomiyamachi Miyaji, Aso

"The food and accommodation were amazing! They even provide yukata (a casual kimono) to wear, and the onsen (hot spring) facilities are really special. Besides the regular hot springs, they also have mud masks and a hot mist sauna! The late-night ramen was delicious too! It was a great experience, absolutely no downsides except for the price, haha! 🤭"

📍 1498 Kurokawa, Aso

"The service provided here is up and beyond. I love that the whole set up gives not only space for people to mingle, also proper work space to have your alone time if you need it. A beautiful kitchen set up as well, I felt very safe and clean staying here. It was my first time using a kotatsu table too, a dream come true. I listened to some cd displayed for anyone to listen on a headphone. So much fun. The location is perfect too, super close to Aso Station, where we get to everywhere."

"Great onsen ryokan experience! The private onsen was worth the extra cost. Places has free karaoke and ping pong, which need to be pre-booked, so get in early to book your spots. The buffet dinner and breakfast was sublime. I've never eaten so much and such good food before. No stomach is big enough. The private onsen is the highlight, but there are also different types of onsen's that can be tried. There is an indoor one, and a outdoor one, and family onsen's that can be booked. You'd never want to leave the place. Highly recommended."

"I stayed at Takanosgo first time with my family. The room was very clean and pretty big. I really liked a private Onsen in the room. We had a Japanese Kaiseki for dinner, and it was delicious. Staffs are very friendly, so I am satisfied. We will come back for sure. Highly recommended."

"A bit outdated, but kept clean where it matters and the air conditioning unit is new, beds are comfy. Has a hot bath you can use. I think it's the only bath on the property but it's not crowded. Harder to get to if you don't have a car. Owner was able to pick me up from uchinomaki station by calling them. But if you can't make phone calls, it would be a 25 minute walk. Better to go one stop over to Aso station where there are taxi stands. Costs 1700 yen."

"The hotel is located in the forest. There are only three single-family villas in the whole hotel. Each villa has a large courtyard and back garden. There is also a private hot spring. "The facilities are old but very good. However, breakfast and dinner are disappointing. Especially, the dessert for dinner is only ice cream. It is not as described in the photo. In addition, one of the sauna facilities was broken and could not be used. This part needs to be adjusted. I will make a formal complaint to Trip.com."

"Read all reviews carefully before booking. Believe me, this is not the standard in Japan. Dormitory rooms have no door (only curtains) so there is no point in "female only" rooms. The beds have no curtains. Male staff enter rooms suddenly because knocking is not possible. Male guests also come in unconsciously. Three dorm rooms are in a small area without doors... if one person snores, everyone hears it. Even though there was plenty of space next to the bed, every time the staff entered the room, they moved my luggage without asking and blocked the locker under the bed. No bed or ladder beyond my bed, no one walks there. When I left my wet folding umbrella open just a little bit to dry, they closed it while it was still wet, and they placed it right next to my luggage. I didn't think the staff was doing this, but they admitted it. Please look at the attached photos: I put my luggage like the first one, away from the locker. They say "Your luggage is in the middle of the room, blocking the walkway", and they moved my luggage to the opposite side, blocking the locker. This made the same amount of walking space as where I chose to put my luggage."

"Short drive from Mount Aso so was convenient after visiting the crater. The hotel is quite old with furnishing like the 1980s. The Indoor hot spring was just a small simple tub. Overall the stay was not very comfortable as the room and amenities are quite old."
