"What I loved -Super big room with plenty of space. Very comfortable! -Free yukata and sleepwear were provided, and they were really comfortable to wear. -Loved the onsen experience! There are different onsen baths, and everything is connected indoors so you don't have to go outside. -Buffet dinner and breakfast were amazing. So much variety, and the Aso milk was incredibly fresh and delicious. -The room had a beautiful view. Waking up to the scenery was one of the highlights of the stay. -Great place to relax, and I would definitely bring my family back next time. What could be better -The open-air parking lot is quite large, and some parking spaces are a bit far from the hotel lobby."

Aso Base Backpackers
"Room: decent bunk bed. comes with lockable storage underneath, a shelf, a rack, a hanger, a light and some plug sockets. you have to make the bed yourself, and there is not a privacy curtain. the dorm room doesn't have a door, just curtains which means you can hear noises from other dorms, people chatting in the communal area downstairs, people on the phone on private rooms etc.. Bathroom: a few sinks showers and toilets so you should be able to find an available one. comes with shampoo, conditioner, body wash. since the bunk beds don't have privacy curtains and you therefore need the shower cubicle to get changed, moisturised etc. it would be useful to have a tub/basket in there rather than just hooks. the showers are a bit annoying, they're the type that you have to keep pressing to restart the water flow. this is quite annoying when trying to wash long hair. the temperature can also fluctuate as the water flow changes. the hairdryers are also a bit weak for long hair. Security: pass to get into the hostel. lockable storage space under bed. Amenities: kitchen area with stoves, microwaves, pans etc. laundry machines (400 for wash, 100 for 15min drying). books and area guides. onsen coupon. Location: quick walk to station and convenience store. Other: got to bare in mind the cost, so although there are some criticisms here, it is definitely good value for money"

"My son absolutely loves this hotel. It's clean, modern, and has a lovely Japanese feel. Both breakfast and dinner are buffet style and the quality is excellent. We were on a road trip and the scenery along the way was absolutely stunning."
Kosugi Resort Lodge
"Really great place. It's located on a hill, so getting around without a car in this area would be difficult. The apartment itself is spacious, clean, and has a wonderful view. The bathroom is fantastic. The only downside is the disposable tableware. I really wished there was at least one proper glass and plate."

"Like the onsen in the hotel; onsen water is good and big enough for 6-7 person to use. Japanese breakfast served by staff was quite substantial and tasty. The room that we stayed is quiet and faces mountain and park. Bathroom a little small but clean. There wasn’t any wardrobe but there were hooks on the wall and hangers were provided."

"I booked a stay that included breakfast. The owner was incredibly kind and helpful, explaining everything thoroughly when I had questions, which made my stay very smooth. The bedding was super cozy and plush. After a relaxing hot spring bath, I enjoyed a warm cup of tea using the in-room tea bags and kettle, then had a wonderful night's sleep in the comfortable futon. Breakfast was a delicious Japanese-style home-cooked meal. They even knocked on my door to let me know when breakfast was ready. The lounge facilities, including the smoking room and manga collection on the second floor, were also a great bonus."

"I stayed at Takanosgo first time with my family. The room was very clean and pretty big. I really liked a private Onsen in the room. We had a Japanese Kaiseki for dinner, and it was delicious. Staffs are very friendly, so I am satisfied. We will come back for sure. Highly recommended."

"My husband and i were staying there from 22dec to 24dec, in a japanese style room in main building. The station is abt 10min by taxi or abt 15min by bus, then walk abt 2 min from the Aso onsen byoin mae bus stop. I left my backpack at the bus when i headed to the ryokan, and i was freaking out. Thank god Matsuoka-san and Rin contacted the aso station, got hold of the bus driver and we managed to retrieve back our bag. A thousand thanks to d owner Matsuoka san for sending me all the way to Aso station, and checked with almost all the staff in the bus terminal in Aso station As for the room/facilities, the room was simple and basic compared to other ryokan which we stayed before. The deco was simple but very cosy. The room comes with a toilet, no bath. It was abt 20sqm in size. There were 2 types of onsen, public and family bath type 1 and 2. The public onsen was lovely, switching one to the other every day. There is a small mini library, a cat house, sauna and a foot bath next to the onsen area. Food wise, we had the akaushi beef kaiseki meal on the first night. The roasted akaushi beef was tough, very hard to chew. So we requested a seafood kaiseki the 2nd night, and our request was accommodated though it was requested last minute. Service was good. Rin/Maho/Yoshimoto san were trying their best to comm to us in English during our dinner/breakfast. Good stay and recommended this ryokan for a stay in Aso. *There are 2 bus per hour to/from aso station."

"Although we arrived a little early, we were able to check in without any problems. The staff were very friendly, from welcoming us to showing us to our room. The food also used plenty of local ingredients, and the vegetables from their own farm were especially delicious. The staff seemed to be foreigners, but they spoke fluent Japanese and were very friendly, which I thought was wonderful."
