Onyado Kaishu

"The facilities are old, so they are at the level of cheap Korean inns. The rooms, tatami mats, and bedding are old and unclean. However, the location is close to the city and Karatsu Castle, and it is connected to the cafe street. Above all, the breakfast and dinner are authentic Japanese food, which makes up for the old facilities. And the price is cheaper than other inns. If you want a clean hotel in a pine forest next to the beach, stay at the Seaside Hotel (east side), and if you want a Japanese accommodation with cheap Japanese food, this inn seems sufficient."

Ryokan Wataya

"This is the first time I've been to a hotel that was so bad. There is a barista and water server on the first floor, and there are also plenty of paper cups so you can drink freely. There was a cockroach about 2 cm in size inside the paper cup. There were also two other cockroaches, making a total of three cockroaches we saw in one night. Also, I received a phone call from the kitchen just after 6 a.m. about the fish for breakfast. The conversation on the phone was so accented that I couldn't understand it at all. For breakfast, there was usually fish, so I don't know what the call was for. In the changing room of the public bath, there was a lot of fine dust, which bothered me when I was barefoot, and the towels were hard. No consideration for children. I went expecting that Emperor Showa had stayed there in the past and that it was a tangible cultural property, but I was surprised. It seems like he is resting on his past laurels. I understand that cockroaches can't be helped unless it's a sterile room, but it's too cruel. There are old but hygienic accommodations. The staff had a bad attitude and I shouldn't have gone to Karatsu. If you want to feel the worst, go for it."

"The access from Karatsu Station was excellent. The room was spacious and clean, making for a comfortable stay. The only downside was the pink mold throughout the bathroom. Please ensure thorough cleaning."

"This is my first stay at Ryokan and it was perfect. Personnel' English is not perfect but it's enough. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and healthy and the portions were big; the Ryokan building and its garden were peaceful and beautiful. I'll be happy to visit this place again later!"

"Close to the station and generally very clean. Everyone was very considerate. The black tea at breakfast downstairs was particularly delicious; it had a unique aroma. There are many great restaurants nearby, and everyone was very welcoming. Karatsu was my favorite part of this trip."

Riverside Hotel Karatsu Castle

"The view from the room was amazing, and the room itself was very clean. We received a welcome beer and could also enjoy coffee, so I'd say the service was excellent. The only amenity provided was a toothbrush; it would have been nice to have a small mirror for makeup."
