"This is a lovely hotel and in my experience the best hotel in Orkney. The rooms are beautiful. They have loads of character. They are very comfortable and spotlessly clean and they are warm. They also have a huge lounge area where guests can relax and chill with sea views and a lovely bar. The breakfasts are delicious and the staff are extremely helpful, welcoming and accommodating. The customer service is fantastic here. I have stayed here 3 times and once at The Shore hotel next door, and I cannot fault the hotel or the service. Its a very comfortable and welcoming stay. I'm extremely grateful to Stuart, one of the reception staff at the Kirkwall Hotel who went the extra mile to make me feel welcome. All round, a great experience and I'm very grateful to The Kirkwall Hotel for everything they did for me during my time in Orkney. Highly recommend this place. You wont find better in Orkney and the prices are reasonable for what Orkney prices are."

"We were booked here thru Rabbie´s and we had a very comfortable two nights at the Royal Oak Guest House. We were given a twin room en suite and it was a very spacious room with a lot of space for all your belongings. Since we were on a Rabbie´s tour our nights here were basically in and out with long days on the road. We did stay in since we were to tired to walk down the street to Kirkwall center. Our tour guide made a stop at the local Lidl so we bought some "tv-dinner" to heat up in the microwave in the lounge up stairs. Alice made a very nice breakfast for us. You basically fill in a form the evening before what you want for breakfast. Plenty to choose from."

"Having come off the boat after a weeks sailing I needed a B&B to lay my head before flying out the following day. From the moment of booking this B&B has been so helpful. I requested if I could leave my bag early while I explored for the day, they allowed me to drop it off & even popped in my room when it was ready. The en suite room was clean, tidy & more than catered for my needs. Breakfast was a combination of help yourself & a cooked breakfast ordered the night before. I thoroughly recommend this place it’s a max 5 min walk to bus station & into town. Special mention to Andrew who was really helpful when it came to finding out the airport bus timings, holding my bag & dropping it in my room & generally helpful. Will definately stay again if passing through in the future."

"Comfy bed and a cosy room. A Lovely bathroom. Great breakfast selection with hot food option. Attentive host. A little far out of town for two ladies with dodgy knees, however only a fifteen minute walk- so we were told 😂 Unseasonably warm and sunny weather made the trip memorable Suggest a fan in the room for future use"

"The twin room we were assigned (401) when we arrived was located on the street level of a building across the street. It is a spacious room with comfortable beds, nice shower and adequate heating, although we turned it off when we retired. The staff is friendly and helpful when asking about restaurants or sights. Breakfast was served on the second floor in the main building starting at 0730 which worked well with our tour schedule. The view from the breakfast area was of gardens behind the hotel."
