Red Submarine - Hostel ★

"It's a 10-15 minute walk from Kure Station. If you're taking a taxi, just say "Red Building" and they'll get you there. The building has an internet cafe on the second floor, a public bath on the third floor, and a hotel on the fourth floor. Guests can use the public bath on the third floor for free. The public bath has a large communal bath, a cold bath, and a sauna (150 yen). Guests are welcome to bring their own towels from their rooms. Bath towels are available for 200 yen, and shampoo and body soap are available for free upon request at the reception. Check-in is at 11:00 PM and the hotel closes at midnight. There are dormitories (with rows of bunk beds) and private rooms. I stayed in a dormitory, and each bed had two outlets, which was convenient for charging. The lockers are large enough to fit a large backpack. The hotel's concept, as its name suggests (Red Submarine), is to create a submarine-like atmosphere. The bedrooms, lounge, and restrooms are all enclosed. Smoking is permitted in the balcony-like area. You can order meals from the internet cafe on the second floor and eat them in the lounge 24 hours a day. There is a Lawson convenience store nearby. I would like to stay here again if I have the opportunity to come to Kure."

"One of the best seaside Japanese inns with can’t-beat view of the bay. The individual rooms are very clean and tidy with traditional tatami floors and furniture. The futon bedding was clean and comfortable. There is a common bathroom on each floor with a separate common bathing room on the second floor where you can scrub down and soak in a bath. These traditional amenities are great experiences in themselves. The staff are kind and helpful and go beyond to make your stay enjoyable. They let me borrow a bicycle to ride around town and the island. Paddle boards are available for rent. The breakfast at the Alpha Cafe had an English style to it and was tasty. I’d highly recommend a stay here. The retro look and feel to the place is a charm."
