Our overnight stay at this hotel in Kusatsu was simply the best we've experienced in Japan. We arrived a bit early and we were allowed to check in before 3 as there was a room available. The service was excellent, and the room was spacious, complete with all the amenities we needed. Although the shower was located downstairs in the private onsen, it was never crowded, and I had the onsen all to myself. The hotel also provided us with yukatas, adding a lovely traditional touch to our stay. Breakfast was served in our room in the morning, and the staff graciously accommodated our request to change the breakfast time, as we wanted to visit an onsen that opened at 9 AM. The hotel was impeccably clean, and we slept like babies that night. I would love to stay here again on our next visit to Kusatsu. とても良い所でした、有難う 😊❤️

사이노카와라 공원 입구에 있는 호텔입니다. 위치는 구사츠 온천의 서편 끝이지만, 공원 입구에 위치하다보니 조용하진 않습니다. 호텔의 위치가 버스 터미널에서 거리가 조금 있지만, 별도의 셔틀 서비스를 제공하진 않습니다. 언덕 조금 올라와야 합니다. 전통 료칸식 건물은 아니고, 일반적인 호텔식 건물에서 료칸 스타일 서비스를 진행합니다. 침구의 상태가 썩 좋진 않았습니다. 피도 묻은 흔적이 있었고, 머리카락도 있었고. 구사츠 온천 1913이 바로 보이는 위치에 있다 보니 뷰는 나쁘지 않습니다. 하프보드 식사는 바로 앞의 호텔이 보이고 사이노카와라 공원에서 흘러나온 물이 내려가는 소리가 들리는 2층에서 제공됩니다. 식사는 굉장히 만족스러웠습니다. 일본식 석식과 조식을 제공하는데, 가격대비 퀄리티가 훌륭합니다. 객실 및 시설은 그다지 좋지 않습니다. 호텔에서 료칸 스타일 한 스푼 얹은 방이라, 패션으로 만든 다다미와 차를 즐길 수 있는 테이블이 있고, 객실에는 변기만 있습니다. 개인 샤워실이나 욕실이 없어서 전부 1층의 대욕탕에서 해결해야 합니다. 대욕탕의 사이즈도 전체 투숙객의 수가 적다 보니 작고 좁은 욕탕 2개 뿐이며, 대욕탕 내 사우나도 항상 가동하지 않습니다. 대욕탕 외 시설은 3층의 족욕장이 전부입니다. 객실이 총 12개 뿐이다 보니, 서비스는 세심한 편입니다. 직원이 고객 한 명 한 명을 기억하고 서비스를 진행합니다.

Such a flawless experience for osen and meals. Osen water is No.1 quality. The dinner and breakfast just AMAZING! All the food are from local ingredients. They are not only healthy and tasty, but also they are just like an art piece that made by the chef. The beds are just perfect and so comfy. The free pick up and drop off from bus terminal is the life saver. Kudos to the team and thank you so much for this amazing hospitality. We had a wonderful time in hear and hoping to come back to Kusatsu again with this hotel!

This was my first and only stay at a ryokan so I don’t have much to compare it to. I chose this lodging because of the cats and good reviews on the food. The cats were really sweet and I enjoyed playing with them. I have 2 cats of my own so it was really nice. The food was so beautiful and delicious - the mushroom soup at dinner was amazing. I really enjoyed it. The private bath rooms were very convenient and open 24 hrs. I thought the facilities were clean and very pleasant. The location was very close to the central area and a quick walk to all the important sites including the bus station. The only comment I have was in the morning someone was smoking and the smell got ****** into the 2nd floor hallway so maybe more care should be taken to be sure the smoke stays outside. The host was so nice and sweet and I used google translate to ask questions. The matcha madeleines are so tasty I bought a box to take with me.

Location of the hotel is superb!! A short 4-5min walk from the Kusatsu Onsen bus station. Check in was prompt and quick but the front desk staff spoke very limited English. Hotel itself spans 3 separate buildings. Interior is a bit tired and old. Buffet breakfast is well organized and food is good. Onsen baths is large with an outdoor onsen pool as well. Towels were not available at the locker rooms, which is a bit of a let down. Need to bring from own room. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and if I were to visit Kusatsu Onsen again, I would stay here.

Excellent service. I will give 10 out of 5 if I could. There was a staff who rushed out to us and asked if we were going to stay at the Ryokan. Very helpful for lost travelers overwhelmed by the cold weather. Greeted us warmly when we arrived. Explained the important information to us as best as they could in English, which is perfectly fine. Room was big. Decorated meticulously in the traditional Japanese style. Yukata and Obi provided added on to the immersive experience. Dinner was exquisite. Dishes gave us a taste of what traditional Japanese cuisine was like. The food was sincere (didn’t feel like frozen / canned / ready made food), served and plated meticulously. There were 2 onsens, indoor and outdoor. They were clean and spacious enough. Water (I believe) is from the hot spring nearby and was immensely therapeutic. Ryokan was near the heart of the town and everything was within walking distance. Kindly shuttled us to the bus terminal when we checked out (we didn’t have to wait for fixed timings) and carried our (heavy) luggage. All in all, we enjoyed the one night stay very much and they set a high bar for Japanese hospitality.

I stayed at this onsen hostel and had a pleasant experience. The location is excellent—very convenient for exploring the area. The staff spoke English, which made communication smooth, and the place had a nice mix of Japanese and Western atmosphere. Everything was clean and comfortable. That said, I was hoping for a more traditional, authentic onsen experience. Still, it’s a great option for travelers looking for comfort and accessibility.

My stay at Kamenoi Hotel Kusatsu was excellent. The onsen was very clean and quite spacious, making it a relaxing experience. The hotel also has a convenient shortcut that leads directly to the Yubatake pedestrian area, which is a big plus. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style with a wide variety of dishes — plenty of options and all very enjoyable. The service was great, and the room was comfortable to sleep in. The only downside is that there were a bit too few power outlets in the room, but it wasn’t a major problem. Overall, a fantastic stay and highly recommended for anyone visiting Kusatsu.

There was a moldy spot in front of the AC of our room and was wet too. The sink had a crack and you could tell it was pretty run down with a lingering smell of smoke in the floor (we had a smoking room), but the onsen was great and overall for the price good. The breakfast was good and the workers were nice.

The hotel was around a 5 mins walk away from the Yubatake spot, there were less shops around this area but also this gave the place its calmness. Staff were able to communicate in English
