Glencree

"I booked a 2 night stay at Glencree through *********** and opted for a room with a balcony. The room we were given was room 1 , a small but spotlessly clean cosy room with ensuite with the balcony overlooking the stream, very pretty, with tables and chairs . Glencree is in a great position , being a 15 minute walk either side to Windermere & Bowness, has free parking for 4 cars but can also use the Church directly opposite. Breakfast was ordered the day before on the tablet in our room with a great choice and the time slot you preferred. Breakfast was served by Ian the owner, we had a full English which was cooked to perfection. Ian was the perfect friendly host. I would highly recommend Glencree and hope to stay again in the future. "

"Location: About 10 minutes walk from Windermere Railway Station. It's downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back. It's quite close. The accommodation is self-service, with access control, no elevator, you need to carry your own luggage, up to the third floor The room is quite big, the hygiene is OK, the hot water is a little slow, and the room has heating The hotel breakfast (8:30-9:30) is pretty good, with a variety of choices. You can fill it out one day in advance and put it on the table at the entrance. On our last day, we needed to catch the bus early, so we asked the hotel staff to prepare breakfast for us on the way. The service attitude was very good."

"Came here midweek and stayed in a landpod which was nice. I actually hesitated to write this positive review as it just means less availability in future but I'll be a team player and share the love. Arrived late due to a delayed train and the staff helpfully stayed open later to accommodate my check-in which was very much appreciated - also a very cheerful welcome on arrival which made me feel better - thank you. Less helpful was the local taxi firm refusing to take the job when id tried to book earlier in the day (i assume because it was later at night and the journey is short by car and a small fare - but sadly a much longer walk from the station - 20 minute cycle ride or 50 min walk). The facilities were spotless and I opted for the cooked breakfast which says its a buffet on the website but was actually something you had to order from a selection of available items on the menu. Maybe i misread the brief (and wasnt directed otherwise) but i got one item of each which looked a little pitiful (particularly as I held the beans) in the end was not really worth the extra money to be honest. I'd just go for the continental in future. Kitchen, living room and dining areas all spot on. As ever, the hostel stay will be influenced heavily by the interaction and behaviour of fellow guests so thankfully all was good. Fully recommend this as a place to stay in the lakes but beware it is on a hill so if youve not got a car just factor that in."

"The location and hygiene of this hotel is okay, except that the carpets don't seem to have been cleaned for a long time. I was most dissatisfied with a male waiter, his attitude was particularly bad, I suspect he was a ******, his attitude was really bad, I have stayed in so many places in the world in hotels and B&Bs, this male waiter's attitude was the worst, I entered the staff area is my fault, but I entered from the restaurant, there is no staff only to enter the prompts, the male waiter kicked me out like a dog, I felt I was insulted.The waiter shooed me out like a dog, I felt insulted, it seems that the quality of the British people really needs to be improved."

"I made a fairly last minute booking to stay for a couple of nights on a solo trip to the Lake District. A very friendly welcome once again, and the rooms are perfect. Fantastic breakfasts across the two days I was there, nice evening meals and a good choice of beers. It was a shame Sam wasn't there (I think she was on holiday) and it was noticeable. She has a knack of making everyone feel like her personal guest, even more important as a solo traveller, but the rest of the team are still very friendly. I look forward to staying again some time"
