"The Pheasant Hotel at Harome is a place where the best of hospitality collides to make one’s dining or staying experience second to none. The beautiful stone built hotel wraps its arms around you immediately you step into the entrance. The ambiance is country charm/boutique chic making it warm, cosy and sophisticated all at once. But a hotel is only as good as its staff and here we found them all friendly, courteous and helpful rolled into one. The team are lead by the excellent Liam McDonnell, General Manager who is very hands on, very hospitable and charming. Now, the food! The Pheasant obviously has an excellent head chef behind the scenes. The menus reflect local produce with their own garden grown accompaniments. Trust these chefs; flavours may appear not to compliment each other but you would be wrong! From our halibut in pine gin starter through excellent mains to finish with a lemon, ginger and yuzu soufflé our taste buds were entranced. They do an excellent tasting menu as well as à la Carte. We were there to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and it was made so special even to Liam taking my husband to the bar to demonstrate how to make my favourite cocktail so that he could continue at home! Set in the very picturesque village of Harome, North Yorkshire The Pheasant is a must visit to stay or dine or both."

"We enjoyed our stay, was a fabulous location with a car as only a short walk or drive to central cork. Staff, room and breakfast was lovely, our only critique was there was a wedding reception downstairs which was unfortunately VERY loud and didn’t finish until midnight. "At 1700 [currency unit] a night, this was already the cheapest of the four hotels we stayed at in the UK. York's overall cost of living is much lower than Edinburgh and London. It was a family room with one double bed and two very small sofa beds. The hotel is by the river and is an older building. The room window was right next to one of the sofa beds and had cobwebs on it. I was a bit afraid of bugs crawling in if I opened it. There was no air conditioning; it wasn't hot outside that day, but it was quite warm inside due to poor ventilation, so I slept with the fan on."

"The hotel location is excellent. It's a 3-5 minute walk from the train station, and right next to the city walls – you can even see them from your room window! York Minster and Shambles are only about a 5-6 minute walk away. The staff are really friendly, and the facilities are quite new. "The hotel is good, situated in a nice place (for drivers), parking is free. Room was of a good size, very clean and quiet. Water pressure and temperature were amazing, enjoyed our showers. Good to have a breakfast included as well. Hotel is clean and looks recently renovated. Floors are solid. Huge and good towels, a lot of light in the room. Heating was on when it got colder. Staff were very friendly and nice. Parking was full because of the bank holiday, had to stay far on an overflow parking, good that they have it. Warning about 160 fee for running hot water with the steam was honestly scary and inappropriate. Bed was just double, small for us. We were only able to sleep on our sides (my husband is big, I am average). Breakfast was tasty, but basic. Coffee (you choose tea or coffee) in a pot was too much for 1 person and not tasty at all. No fresh vegetables or/and vegetables, no sliced cheese, no pastry."
