The rooms are quite dated and ours wasn’t very clean.  On our 2nd day we went out at 9.30am and arrived back at the hotel at 16.30pm only to find our room had not been made up. The staff knocked on the door at approximately 5pm to make the room up. The evening meals we had were very good. Breakfast was good but had a long wait for it to arrive"

"I stayed for two nights. I stayed in one of the Sidings Double rooms and was pleased with the size, comfort and cleanliness of my room. It was a very quiet part of the hotel, and although I had a great view of the garden and station - I heard no noise at all so had a very peaceful sleep. The only slight disappointment I have, is that the hotel pool was quite tiny and was too crowded even at an off peak time, but this does not detract from the hotel and the leisure facility is really just a bonus - there is so much to see and do within the city that I had plenty to keep me occupied during my stay. York is a magical place. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. I have already booked this hotel again to bring my young son and do a spooky ghost tour in the autumn. Location-wise this hotel can’t be beaten, and the hotel staff are super helpful and friendly."

"The place was very opulent indeed! We were very happy with our stay. Initially Tammy the receptionist told us that there were limited slots for the spa and restaurant. However the hotel was virtually empty. A party of 16 guests was in during our stay but the hotel was definitely not busy at all. We therefore had to rush to have dinner and only enjoy an hour of our spa visit instead of 2 hours allocated. She told us the only spa slot was 7-9pm (we were the only ones in there) and dinner they only had 6:45, 7 and 7:15pm meaning we got an hour for food and an hour in the spa. This wasn’t a huge issue as we didn’t need more than an hour in the spa. The steamroom was useless. No steam at all even though the attendant reset it. Sauna was great and pool was great. Changing facilities were lovely. Food was nice 8/10. The Amuse-bouche was delicious and a complimentary starter. The mrs loved her venison. My steak was average and the chips also average. Pricey at £92 for the one course but to be expected as the place is very luxurious. Staff were brilliant. Very professional and polite. Breakfast was decent. Staff again were brilliant and boxed one up as the mrs was getting ready we wouldn’t have made the 10am cut off."

"Nice cosy room outside of the main hotel. Only window was a skylight that you could open, but it didn't give a lot of natural light. Bed was comfortable and shower good. Excellent amenities within the room including tea/coffee, ironing facilities and TV. Perfect location for exploring the city and the bonus of free parking. The continental breakfast was a little sparse and if you're a vegan, you may want to let the hotel know ahead of arrival. Despite the odd area for improvement, still very good value."

"The hotel is very close to the train station, about a 5-minute walk through the city walls, which is very convenient. York city isn't large, and most attractions and shopping streets are within walking distance. We booked two rooms and arrived a little after 2 PM. The front desk initially thought we only had one room and assigned us a room on the first floor, ignoring our request for a higher floor. When I told him we had booked two rooms, he then said the other room could be on a higher floor, but we couldn't get the keys until after 3 PM. So, we had to take all our luggage to the first-floor room first. As soon as we opened the door, there was a strange smell, which got a little better after turning on the air conditioning. Since we were only staying for one night, we didn't bother to discuss it further. When we returned in the evening, we picked up the keys for the second room, which was on a higher floor. The cleanliness was noticeably better than the first-floor room, and there was no strange smell. Both rooms were quite spacious, which was a plus. Breakfast was semi-buffet style; you could order one hot dish, and then help yourself to bread, fruit, and other items."

"The location is fantastic, walking distance to the train station and the city centre and right on the water.y only complaint is that there was only one outlet/socket in the room and it was on the opposite side of the room to the bed. More a nuisance than a really problem, but not ideal for a charging phone that is also your alarm. For a room with no fridge, fan or air conditioner there was a consistent whirring and ticking noise that I couldn't identify the cause of. The 3 long emails and two in app messages I received aftwr the initial booking confirmation were unnecessary and annoying. I received one (reminding me about check in/out time, parking details, breakfast etc) arrived two hours after I checked out."
