The location was excellent and very convenient, but there was some renovation work at the entrance, which wasn't ideal. The doorman wasn't particularly welcoming, but the lady at the front desk was lovely and even upgraded our breakfast. My parents and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal."

"First time in Datong, and the hotel's location is excellent, right by the Datong Ancient City, which is very convenient. There are plenty of food options nearby, and the night view is stunning. You can see the entire ancient city from the room, and the room itself is large and spacious. The only downside is that the cleanliness needs improvement, and the breakfast staff could use more training. To avoid affecting your online reviews, I'll still give you a good rating. I think the key issue is a lack of proper staff training and management. Also, the laundry room could definitely learn from Huazhu and Atour to improve its image."

"The lobby offers a variety of herbal teas, and you can even refill your own water bottle. There's a shared fridge and plenty of free bottled water. The room was clean and tidy, and the shower had excellent water pressure. The lobby manager was warm and friendly, giving great practical advice on how to explore the ancient city walls, which was incredibly helpful. We had a very comfortable stay at this hotel, thank you!"

"The hotel was new and the rooms were clean, but the service was terrible! We arrived at the front desk at night, and there were three or four staff members standing there laughing and joking. After I showed my ID, they told me that someone had already checked me in?! It turned out that after a long discussion, they realized it was because a man with the same name as me had booked the same room type, and they gave him the room I had booked in advance (I had noted that I didn't want the last room and wanted it away from the elevator)?! Such a big hotel?! Don't they even check the information when registering guests? The phone numbers are different, and the genders are different too?! While I was standing at the front desk late at night waiting for them to resolve the issue, the receptionist kept yelling about what to do about the man's booking?! Where was I supposed to stand?! She didn't even apologize, and she was yelling at me about the wrong booking!! Am I supposed to fix her problem? Is this how you train your staff for such a big hotel? And this is supposed to be number one on the luxury list? Is this the level of service you're providing? Don't tell me it's because there are too many guests during the Chinese New Year. If you're so busy during the holidays, how could you make a mistake checking guest information? After making me stand for at least ten minutes, they finally gave me a room. They even gave me a last-minute room near the elevator! When I saw this, I called the front desk, and they said, "Oh, all the rooms you booked are last-minute rooms?" Why didn't you write on the booking page that all City View Suites are last-minute rooms? It felt like the staff didn't know what they were doing; the service was completely disproportionate to the hotel's quality! Oh, and by the way, the laundry room was closed during the New Year period, and they didn't mention this at all when I messaged customer service during booking. 😃 The score is for cleanliness and hotel infrastructure; service is zero."

"This hotel is truly excellent! It's super new, and all the facilities are fantastic. I booked a king room with a terrace, and the small terrace was incredibly comfortable and quiet at night. From the professional and polite driver who picked me up to the front desk service, everyone was wonderful. Even though it wasn't my first time visiting Datong, the warm and welcoming people here are the main reason I'd keep coming back. The location, needless to say, is top-notch. I was originally considering booking a room at [redacted mountain hotel], but I'm so glad I made a much better choice here. The breakfast was also incredibly delicious! The 'dao xiao mian' (knife-cut noodles) – with genuinely high-quality pork – and the lamb offal soup were even better than what you'd find outside. (The ones outside are often too salty, to the point where I thought I couldn't handle Datong's lamb offal soup.) I devoured two bowls! While the breakfast spread wasn't huge, everything was truly exquisite. Even the coffee tasted good, indicating quality beans. The chefs were also very kind, and their culinary skills were amazing! Sometimes, you really don't need to chase after '网红店' (internet-famous eateries); what the hotel offers is superior. Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience the swimming pool because I was rushing to a scenic spot. It's surprising that such a small hotel/guesthouse even has a pool! Next time, I definitely need to stay for a few more days to enjoy it. Finally, as someone who is quite a germaphobe and has never stayed in a guesthouse before, this new hotel/guesthouse really met my standards. Highly recommended. The off-season price is also quite reasonable."

"The hotel is situated not far from the old walled town and equal distance to the shopping area. Formerly a Holiday Inn now independent. The rooms are large and comfortable with good work desk and wifi. Comfortable bed gives good rest. The fridge had been removed but there is kettle and plenty of water, every day some fruit was delivered to the room which I appreciated. Hotel has gym, swimming pool and two restaurant, given the price it was very good value for money and I would happily stay again."

"I'm absolutely amazed at how little I paid for such a large room - it's almost bigger than my own apartment! The hotel is clean and the room had a large working desk and a little extra table that was perfect to have breakfast. If I can say something, I don't prefer their choice of giving disposable towels, but overall the amenities provided were more than enough to have a very decent stay. Note that it's a 10 yuan can ride away from the old town, but well located to catch bus 3 to the Yungang Caves. There are restaurants and stores all around. Recommended."

The host, his family, and all the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and they were always happy to assist with anything we needed. We arrived a little early, and they kindly let us have our room straight away, which was greatly appreciated. The bath tub with hot sping water was a nice treat. Both breakfast and evening meals at the accommodation were delicious. Overall, we felt very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it."

"I booked this B&B hotel near Wuding Gate, inside the ancient city. It's on a street but surprisingly quiet. The room was spacious and bright, with a charming Chinese decor, featuring a canopy bed with comfortable and soft bedding. The bathtub, toilet, and shower were all separate, which was great. They even offered afternoon tea and bead crafting. From here, you can easily walk to sights like the Daiwang Mansion, the city wall scenic area, the Sculpture Museum, and Huayan Temple. The freshly made pastries for breakfast every morning were delicious. It's an excellent choice for a relaxing stay within the ancient city."

What they have: -super cute kitty (adopted from street) and it lets u pet! -shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, towel, slippers (not disposable type), free ear plug -self service laundry room -spacey lounge/rest area -lift/elevator to level 2/3 (there’s a 6 steps of staircase before the lift, boss can help with your luggage if he’s in) -Great location, 7 mins walk to enter old town from East gate, just next to 晋游宝直通车, I could catch 6am direct bus without hassle in the early morning -friendly boss and team What they don’t have: -sitting toilet bowl -only self service bed making"

"This is an older hotel with excellent value for money. It's located right next to the old city, offering views of it from the windows. It's also just a 10-minute bike ride to the tourist shuttle bus stop. All the staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, especially the housekeeping ladies.
