"The room was incredibly spacious, offering exceptional value for the price. The hotel maintains a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, which I truly appreciated. While the furniture and carpets show some slight signs of age, the overall comfort remains high.
I was impressed by their Zero Waste policy; instead of plastic bottles in the room, they provide glassware and a convenient water dispenser located right by the elevator. Please note that for a two-night stay, there is no housekeeping service, which aligns with their eco-friendly initiative.
The amenities were comprehensive, and the service was outstanding—truly upholding the high standards of the Mercure brand. Parking is plentiful and hassle-free. Lastly, the view is a hidden gem; on a clear day, you get an unobstructed, breathtaking panorama of the mountain range without any buildings blocking the sight. I highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway!"

"The Good:
You cannot beat the location. Being directly connected to Nagano Station is a total game-changer, especially if you’re hauling ski gear or catching an early Shinkansen. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and the staff is incredibly professional.
The Bad:
The breakfast buffet is the biggest letdown. While the quality of the food is fine, the menu is extremely repetitive. If you are staying for more than two nights, you’ll find the exact same selection of eggs, bacon, and local sides every single morning.
Verdict:
Stay here for the convenience and the comfort, but maybe skip the breakfast add-on after day two and explore the bakeries in the attached MIDORI mall instead."

"We loved it here. It was our second short stay and this time we had a twin room. The room was very spacious, which we appreciate as many rooms in Japan are fairly small. The little onsen is perfect for getting a deep cleanse after travels. The staff is absolutely amazing and the highlight of this hotel"

"Receptionist was very friendly, recommending places to eat and things to do. Room was clean. The washing machine is free to use. Bed was very soft and comfortable. Location is about 15-20 mins walk from nagano station. And about 10 mins walk to zenkoji temple, you can wake up early and walk to see the early morning prayer that occurs at sunrise.
Lots of food options as it is beside gondo shopping street"

"The location of the hotel is excellent just opposite the zenkoji exit of the Nagano station. The receptionist and staffs are also helpful when we needed to borrow electric plug converter and extra pillow. They were helpful in assisting luggage storage early then check in and later after check out. The twin room is big enough to allow for two big suitcases opening and the bed is comfy. Would stay again when I visit next time!"

"The hotel is really well situated, less than 10 minutes from the JR station, and on the same street as the Shrine, so there were lots of places to eat nearby. I stayed in a dorm, which had more people than I expected for a room (I think I saw at least 60 bed/lockers) so it was quite loud even at night as people kept walking in and out. The actual bed was fine, and the people at the front took their time to walk me through what to know for the hostel. The lounge is a little awkwardly partitioned, but at least you get a space to use if you need food.
The dorm itself, I think has a little too many people to be comfortable but is clean enough. The lights never turn off, but because you have a curtain, it blocks out most of it. The largest issue is the noise, since people are coming in and out at random times of the night, and the buttons to open the door are also quite loud when you're trying to sleep. If you want ear plugs, they have them for a fee at the front. Nagano overall was very nice though, and the location made it a lot easier to get around."

"The room was very nice - sufficiently large and with all necessary amenities (even a small fridge). The room was clean and in good condition. The staff was very kind and stored my luggage for free, as I arrived early in the morning. The hotel is conveniently located, yet in a rather quiet place. It's a walking distance from both Nagano station and Zenkoji temple (approximately 20-25 minutes), however, do note that the nearest bus stop is about 900 meters away, so if you got a lot of luggage and do not intend to get a taxi, that may be a bit far. They also have coin operated washing machines and dryers, in case you need them. Overall, a great option for most travelers, especially in terms of value for money."

This was a brilliant hotel to stay in, about a 10 minute walk from the train station. The staff at reception were incredibly kind and helpful. We have limited Japanese and no Japanese phone number and they even called our next hotel to help arrange us getting their shuttle bus which we would not have managed alone. The rooms are a little dated but perfectly comfortable. We had a fantastic view from our room. Nice touch have drinks free for guests in the lobby (sake was on offer for some of the evening hours.)

A well managed hotel. It is located just 8 min walk from Nagano Station and 3min walk from Alpico customer service office that sells bus tickets to various attractions.
Efficient check in/ out process. Staff ranging from front desk to drivers were professional and polite.
Though the room was relatively smaller than other Toyoko inns, it was clean and well equipped. Good range and supply of amenities.
Breakfast quality and food range were nice. Complimentary DIY luggage locker was convenient.

Excellent hotel, very close to the station. There's a 7/11 along the way, so it's very convenient to stop by if you need anything. The hotel is very clean, beautiful, and modern. The rooms have excellent housekeeping and all the amenities. I also want to mention the fantastic views from the window. Breakfast is included; it's mostly of an Asian character, of course, but everyone can find something to their taste. Excellent hotel!

I had a very positive experience at Hotel New Nagano Next. Even though we only stayed for one night, everything went smoothly. The hotel offers one of the most complete selections of amenities I’ve seen, which was a pleasant surprise.
The staff was genuinely kind and helpful, although their English skills were a bit limited. Despite this, communication wasn’t an issue, and they did their best to assist us.
I’d definitely consider booking this hotel again without hesitation. A solid choice for anyone visiting Nagano!

I had a wonderful stay at Smile Hotel Nagano. The staff were extremely polite, helpful, and welcoming, which made my experience very comfortable from check-in to check-out. The ambience of the hotel is pleasant and relaxing, and everything was well maintained and clean.
The services were smooth and efficient, and I truly appreciated the attention to guest comfort. Overall, it was a great stay, and I would definitely recommend Smile Hotel Nagano to anyone visiting the city. I would love to stay here again!

Highly surprised with thjs room! So spacious and well-equipped with amenities! Parking is also available although one has to walk abit as it is behind the hotel. There are 2 TV’s and 1 remote so will need to toggle left and right. Bed is good although pillow can be more firm in my own opinion.
With mountain view and waking up to sunrise, what a way to wake up. We didn’t have breakfast so we wouldn’t know about the variety. There’s a convenience store just a few blocks down.
Overall, we enjoyed out stay here in Hotel JAL - specifically this room :D

極有温度的一家日式旅館。雖然行李搬上搬下都要走陡峭鋥亮的木質樓梯，屋內老古董讓人生怕碰壞，所有賓客共用衞生間洗澡間和温泉♨️。但卻那麼温馨，樓上樓下合理利用空間，20間左右的客房錯落有致。舒服的温泉泡湯，鬆軟的布團榻榻米和店裡寧靜的環境讓人的心放鬆下來。旅館經營者是一對年逾八旬的老年夫婦，每天樓上樓下忙碌着，迎來送往，81歲的老先生不僅身體硬朗還記憶力超羣，每次住客出門他都把客人的鞋子挑出來放在客人面前，從不出錯。老奶奶也是容光煥發親切可愛，客人跟她説的每一句話她都不會忘記，用心細緻。送別時兩位長者穿着拖鞋站在門外一直跟我們鞠躬揮手告別直到巴士遠行。也許就是使得這家百年老店一直傳承下來的緣故。希望大家入住時也能感受到他們珍貴的温暖並善待珍惜。

This place is ~5mins walk from Zenkoji temple. neighborhood is peaceful at night.
Shoes to be removed outside the accommodation. Rooms are on the 2nd floor so you'll have to carry your luggage up (there's no lift).
Room (with window) is huge. You'll have to head downstairs to use the shared toilet and shared onsen (no toilet inside the room).
We were only allowed 30mins of onsen time for 2 pax - couples weren't allowed to use the onsen concurrently so we had to go one after another (i'm not sure if the instructions got lost in translation..). Felt very rushed so i didnt really get to enjoy the onsen experience, but overall was nice and clean.
Interesting 6.30am tour around the area and within the temple itself, followed by a simple vegetarian breakfast (porridge with omakase-styled sides with miso soup) back at the accommodation. The morning tour lasted from 6.30am - 8.30am.
The accommodation provided a fleece blanket to each pax to bring to Zenkoji temple to keep us warm during the morning praying ceremony. We went on 30 Dec and it was SO COLD.
Overall interesting experience but accommodation price is pretty steep IMO.

Had a great stay at hotel abest. The hotel is directly opposite Nagano station, making it very convenient and easy to get around. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend

This is a truly authentic experience! Cosy, with traditional furniture and bed, whilst still offering very comfortable options it's the best of both worlds. Plus, the view is among the best in town and the breakfast is authentic and charming. It was a beautiful experience to say here and the fact the hosts did not speak English actually added to the experience. I'd be sure to visit again next time I'm in Nagano.
