"Location: Near to Karuizawa train station (approximately 15 min walk to hotel west) and 10min walk to shopping mall. 5 min shuttle bus to reach ski area. Room: Clean and comfortable. But the bath powder is like toilet detergent scent. Amenities: there is Family mart operates until 11pm in hotel west. Service: Front desk lady can’t really speak English and hard to communicate. The man at cloakroom is unfriendly. Shuttle bus service: Shuttle bus service provided within the shopping area, hotel east and west. However, the instruction is unclear to us. When we queued up for the bus to station, the hotel staff did not inform us the bus was here and to align the bus but just change the next bus arrival timing. Until entire lane of the guests missed the bus. We had to walk all the way to station with our huge luggage. Snow Park: No clear direction or sign board to go snow park from hotel east. The snow park area is kinda small and suitable for young kid (below 7 years old). It is boring for kid above 7 years old."

"The room was incredibly spacious, offering exceptional value for the price. The hotel maintains a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, which I truly appreciated. While the furniture and carpets show some slight signs of age, the overall comfort remains high. I was impressed by their Zero Waste policy; instead of plastic bottles in the room, they provide glassware and a convenient water dispenser located right by the elevator. Please note that for a two-night stay, there is no housekeeping service, which aligns with their eco-friendly initiative. The amenities were comprehensive, and the service was outstanding—truly upholding the high standards of the Mercure brand. Parking is plentiful and hassle-free. Lastly, the view is a hidden gem; on a clear day, you get an unobstructed, breathtaking panorama of the mountain range without any buildings blocking the sight. I highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway!"

"I changed rooms because my first room smelled strongly like someone's body odor, but the second room also smelled, just less. So I didn't bother to change again. I've never had this issue elsewhere in Japan and I've stayed at a lot of different hotels in Japan, weird... Breakfast has varieties but tasted so so... I was woken up once by people talking in the hallway. Door sound proof isn't great. So if you're a light sleeper, maybe use ear plugs. Good service and amenities otherwise."

"Really beautiful resort, love the free rental Onsen it’s really nice, if you don’t need room cleaning service you can get 2000yen coupon for souvenir shop. "Love this ryokan! The service was just amazing! We arrived the ryokan feeling cold and asked where we could get some heat pads and was told that since the ryokan provides free shuttle to train station, they could send us to convenient store. And before it, the staff came back with some mini heat pads for us to use for the meanwhile. There was also paid shuttle to snow monkey park (500 yen per pax one way) that you can arrange with them. We had a tatami room, it was spacious and the staff came to the room to do the check in and served tea and welcome snack to us. The ryokan guests are entitled to go to nine onsens around the area for free. The ryokan provides yukatas and all necessities for it. The meals were sumptuous and super yummy. Overall, a fantastic ryokan experience for us!"

"One of the best onsen hotels ever for a good price value! It’s about under 10minute walk from Matsumoto Station situated in a quiet corner of the main road. You have to take off your shoes and store them at the front entrance shoe lockers, because the entire hotel floor is tatami (good experience). Front desk staff very hospitable as they even help to wipe your luggage wheels clean. Room is also entirely tatami, pretty spacious, and very clean. Appreciate that the air conditioner can be toggled between heating & cooling, instead of centralized conditioning. There’s a small private shower cubicle. There’s a free welcome snack in the fridge everyday. At 9:30pm-11pm, there’s even free “Yonaki Soba Noodles”. The public onsen itself was also great, with both indoor and outdoor options. The bed is of a low bed frame slightly mimicking futon style, it was a good night sleep. Definitely will be back to any of their similar chains across Japan!"

"I chosen Cottage A to stay in. While there is nothing much to complain about the cute cottage, personally it is a bit too small for me. But nice environment, good and helpful staff and a very convenient shuttle system to bring you around. You can also call an internal shuttle service that can ferry you from your cottage to the newer West hotel for their buffet breakfast. Otherwise you can eat at the East Hotel for either a Japanese meal set breakfast or a Western style set breakfast. The bread is really good and soft. The outlet shopping mall is accessed by their half hourly shuttle bus and you can do your premium shopping there and eat at their various restaurants or at their food court style food outlets."

"We stayed on 24 to 26 Dec 25. Good hotel but far from everything else. Need to be flexible since weather was unpredictable. We had no snow -just rain for two days, but when we checked out, we had heavy snow which disrupted our travel to Toyama with many trains cancellation and delays (a car stuck on the railroad track). The hotel shuttle bus picks up at Minami-Otari station. There are four coin-operated washing machines and four dryers which were always taken on 3rd Floor. I would advise staying longer than two days and prepare for travel time as it took nearly 20 minutes for a bus ride to Iwatake each way."

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. We visited in early November 2025 during the autumn season, and the beautiful foliage added such a romantic touch to the surroundings. I loved the modern interior, the comfortable bed, and the overall room layout. The hotel looks incredibly romantic at night too, especially with the reflections on the pond. The outdoor onsen was a highlight. It felt serene at night, and the maple trees lit up in the evening made it absolutely scenic. The onsen is located in a separate building, so you do have to walk through the cold, but it wasn’t an issue as the hotel provides thicker robes. If I had to nitpick, the indoor slippers weren’t the most comfortable. We drove during our stay, so getting to nearby attractions was easy. There’s a large supermarket and a pharmacy about 5–10 minutes away, which was very convenient — we didn’t even need to visit any convenience stores. This hotel impressed me so much that it made me look up where else Hotel Indigo has branches in Japan!

Provides shuttle services to Karuizawa Station (which is also where the factory outlet is). Super good service, all the staff members are so welcoming, nice and helpful, and they bid the guests goodbye the traditional Japanese way when we leave, such a warm touch. Very good breakfast with a super nice view. Rooms are spacious enough and very comfortable.

我對這間酒店很滿意，地點一流，職員友善，房間舒適。 房間不論是燈光、氣溫、床褥被鋪都很舒適，特別要讚揚房務姐姐，把房間清潔得非常乾淨。房間有兩個露台，其中一邊可看到八方尾根滑雪場。 住了六晚，每天早餐食物種類大致相同，但也豐富。當中三晚分別到酒店不同的餐廳享用晚餐，第一晚在酒店內吃自助晚餐，食物種類很多；第二晚在酒店旁的The Forest吃西餐；第三晚在酒店旁的The Forest吃日本菜，三間餐廳的價格不貴但很美味。 而放滑雪用具的Dry Room則在酒店外，是真的乾燥房，還有烘乾雪鞋的機器，而不是某些酒店所謂的Dry Room而其實只是一個Locker房已而。

One of the best onsen hotels ever for a good price value! It’s about under 10minute walk from Matsumoto Station situated in a quiet corner of the main road. You have to take off your shoes and store them at the front entrance shoe lockers, because the entire hotel floor is tatami (good experience). Front desk staff very hospitable as they even help to wipe your luggage wheels clean. Room is also entirely tatami, pretty spacious, and very clean. Appreciate that the air conditioner can be toggled between heating & cooling, instead of centralized conditioning. There’s a small private shower cubicle. There’s a free welcome snack in the fridge everyday. At 9:30pm-11pm, there’s even free “Yonaki Soba Noodles”. The public onsen itself was also great, with both indoor and outdoor options. The bed is of a low bed frame slightly mimicking futon style, it was a good night sleep. Definitely will be back to any of their similar chains across Japan!

The room was incredibly spacious, offering exceptional value for the price. The hotel maintains a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, which I truly appreciated. While the furniture and carpets show some slight signs of age, the overall comfort remains high. I was impressed by their Zero Waste policy; instead of plastic bottles in the room, they provide glassware and a convenient water dispenser located right by the elevator. Please note that for a two-night stay, there is no housekeeping service, which aligns with their eco-friendly initiative. The amenities were comprehensive, and the service was outstanding—truly upholding the high standards of the Mercure brand. Parking is plentiful and hassle-free. Lastly, the view is a hidden gem; on a clear day, you get an unobstructed, breathtaking panorama of the mountain range without any buildings blocking the sight. I highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway!

Nice hotel with beautiful hot springs. Both dinner and breakfast were great, although quite a lot of people. Also, it’s a family hotel, so if you don’t like being surrounded by children, cannot recommend.

Amazing hotel with top notch service, facilities and food. The outdoor onsen looks directly out to the snow mountain, and we had snow whilst we stayed—magical feelings when you are in the onsen and snow falls on top of you! Highly recommend.

Our staying here was a pure pleasure! And I must say, it exceeded all our expectations! From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, making the check-in process smooth and hassle-free. The room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated, providing a perfect retreat after a long day of exploring. The location of the hotel is fantastic, sarrounded by montains and river. The free shuttle from Chino Station makes getting here quite easy. Enjoying the onsen was a delightful experience, offering pleasure for all your senses: the hot spring water, the sounds of nature, the beautiful scenery. The traditional kaiseki dinner was exceptional! Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, showcasing fresh, local ingredients. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, with a perfect blend of spices. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a delightful culinary experience that complemented the serene surroundings perfectly! I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to escape and rejuvenate in nature, have a comfortable and pleasant holiday away from the noisy and crowded big city.
