I’m a female solo traveler who doesn’t speak Chinese, and I booked this hotel in a rush right after arriving at Jinan’s train station on a rainy day, feeling quite confused about what to do; the staff contacted me immediately and helped me all the way to the hotel, carrying my bags, opening an umbrella, and guiding me to a beautiful room. They even allowed early check-in, provided an umbrella for walking around town, and gave me a free breakfast voucher—sobtouch. Cookies at checkout were a thoughtful touch, and the serene lake view provided a perfect quick recharge between days of sightseeing—great for a short stay within my 14-day longer itinerary in China. The hotel isn’t in the city centre, but you can get around easily by Didi (about 7–10 minutes to major spots). At night it’s perfect for a peaceful sleep."

"Location of hotel is great at heart of Jinan . Room is ok , food is the main issue as a Muslim who needs Halal food. They have little Indian dishes in dinner which can suite Muslims. Breakfast is same, only omlet can suite Muslims , no variety in cheese . Overall, very good hotel without halal food as an international hotel ."

"Perfect hotel for anyone traveling through Jinan Airport. The location is extremely convenient, and the shuttle connection makes everything stress-free. The room was spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed — the “zero pressure” mattress was fantastic after a day of travel. Amenities were great, and the hotel feels modern and well maintained. Staff were friendly and welcoming, making the entire stay smooth from start to finish. Ideal place for a short trip or a layover in Jinan. I would happily stay again!"

"this hotel was conveniently behind the train station, very convenient as my travels are based all on the train system. check in was a breeze. There are some food stalls nearby and a mall (walkable bit abit far, or by cab). enjoyed this hotel and would stay again,"

"lobby may look a bit old but overall room is nice and clean. Staffs are friendly and helpful too. Could have been better if there is a proper laundry room with both washing machine and dryer, as there were only 2 washing machine without dryer function."

"I found what looked like an engorged tick or bedbug crawling up my bed. The hotel is pretty and I booked it for 1 night as a luxury treat so I could get a good rest for my layover stop to another destination. My room smelt like stale smoke unfortunately, though I had asked for non-smoking. I paid extra on my booking for breakfast and had to wake up at 6am, eat breakfast at 6.30am and go to the airport at 7.20am. My room had a bathtub so I took a bath before bedtime and went to bed at midnight, I got up to go switch the lamp off at 1am and found this bug crawling up the side of my bed going towards me. I think it's either a tick or a bed bug, the body was full of blood. It had 6 or 8 legs, difficult to see but I took a video which doesn't allow me to upload. I don't have any problems with normal bugs such as spiders, but if it is a tick or bedbug it is a big problem. I was really worried there were more hiding inside the bed, I called reception for help and they looked at the bug which I caught in a glass cup. They apologised deeply and changed my room, so I had to move at 1.30am. I explained I was already tired and have to wake up early. In the new room I was unable to sleep as I kept worrying about bed bugs. I got up multiple times to check my bed. And there was a noisy couple next door talking loudly until very late so I couldn't sleep. For a luxury hotel you should not need to loose a whole night's sleep because you are worried about bedbugs or ticks biting you. Nor should be able to hear noise from other guests through the wall. I was extremely exhausted the next day and did not have any appetite. I asked if they could refund the extra I paid for breakfast because I couldn't eat it, but they said it wasn't possible. So I forced myself to try eat 1 egg and some small rice porridge but couldn't finish it. Really expensive to pay for breakfast and hardly eat, it's a shame they couldn't refund the breakfast considering I had no sleep. For a 5* hotel, I would like to have good rest and peaceful sleep. But it was not like that. The staff were very kind and helpful, but it's not so easy to travel here alone. It was not easy to book a taxi for the following morning to the airport and it took 40 minutes of assistance, the man was very kind and helpful, but the hotel should make an easier system for foreign guests to book taxi. When I first arrived in Jinan airport, I had no idea how to get to the hotel. There is no ATM inside the hotel so you cannot withdraw cash, and you cannot pay with foreign card to book a taxi. The shangri-la website did not provide any details for public transport. It simply said bus transfer was available but did not say which number bus. I would give the details here but I have forgotten the route name and bus number now as it was hectic and I was very tired, sorry. I had to waste a lot of time trying to ask for help at the airport as the staff did not speak English. Luckily someone helped me. The bus will cost 20yuan and take you into the centre where you will see the intercontinental hotel and a large shopping mall on the left side of the bus, get off at that stop, it takes 1 hour. From there it's only 5 minutes walk to shangri-la. For a big hotel they should provide easy instructions on the website to guests. The staff apologised deeply for the bug on the bed, and offered 10% reduction of the room rate. Although when I checked out no refund was given and they didn't mention anything about it, I think they just charged full price. Personally I think 10% is not enough anyway. Nobody wants to change rooms at 1.30am because of bugs crawling on the bed. I didn't get any sleep at all and felt itchy because I kept thinking about bugs and couldn't eat the breakfast. I was absolutely exhausted the following day so I was unable to do anything at my next destination and had to waste 1 day more to rest. Unfortunately not an easy experience at the shangri-la."

"Service from reception and housekeeping was excellent, the room was spotless, and breakfast was decent. Also, location-wise, it was good as it is near key attractions such as Daminghu. However, breakfast was a little underwhelming for the price. Maybe you can try eating at a nearby place instead, but the overall hotel was still great."

"Only downside was that half of the elevators were under construction so it increased waiting time to catch the elevator, but i got room upgrade instead. Dtaff very friendly and helpfull, although hotel is old, its still very good and pleasant to stay! Would definitly recommend."
