"Exit from train station, turn right, walk out of the exit and you will see the entrance of the hotel on the right of the building at AMU. Lobby at level 8 while room from 9 onwards. Level 19 is the free onsen for guests. Breakfast was good local and western style. The washer and dryer not as good I think as after wash my clothing got a smell. Managed to rewash some at Kagoshima. Overall very convenient hotel as we used their trains to travel to Peppu to visit hells and Yokosuka to visit Harmonyland"

"We had a pleasant stay at Amanek Beppu. The lobby is bright and welcoming, giving a great first impression. The hotel provides free bottles of water, which was a nice touch and very convenient during my stay. Our room was comfortable and well-kept, making it easy to relax after a long day. Parking is available nearby for a reasonable fee, so it was convenient even for those traveling by car. Overall, Amanek Beppu offers comfort, convenience, and good value. We would happily stay here again."

"Reviews often mention dust - this is true, unfortunately. Perhaps the reason is that the rooms are cleaned by old people, and they simply do not have time to do everything. When entering the room, we felt stuffy smell of dusty carpets. I took a rag and wiped all the carpets from dust to make it fresher. It is also inconvenient that the dryer in the laundry room does not dry things after washing even in two drying cycles. If you load a full tank, keep this in mind. We had to hang things all over the room. The reusable indoor slippers were torn. Apart from this, everything is fine. The hotel is located 10 minutes walk from the station along the main street - easy to find. On the first floor you can take necessary amenities of high quality for free. The room with two beds is small, the suitcase can only be opened close to the door."

"the room is clean, spacious and tidy in general, at least there is no obvious stain on the bedding. The onsen in the hotel is pretty good as the opening time is quite long that you can even enjoy it in the early morning from 0500-0900. The staff there was so nice to me, willing to help, and they can speak in English. The only thing I don’t like is the location. Although I know I have to walk for a while from the JR station, it’s longer than I expected especially when you carry a heavy luggage on a rainy day (maybe im just unlucky). And there is nearly no restaurant nearby. You have to walk for like 7-8 mins to go back to the main street. In conclusion, if you don’t mind the location, it will be a choice for you."

"The hotel itself is a bit older, and you can definitely feel its age in some areas of the property. That said, it still maintains a certain traditional charm. One thing to note is that the location isn’t the easiest to access on foot—you’ll really need a car to get around comfortably, especially if you plan to explore the surrounding area. What truly stood out during my stay was the restaurant staff. They were exceptionally helpful, attentive, and warm throughout my visit. Their hospitality made the dining experience one of the highlights of the hotel. The meals were well-prepared and thoughtfully presented, adding a special touch to each day. Overall, while the facilities could use a bit of updating and the location is best suited for travelers with a vehicle, the kindness and service of the restaurant staff made the stay worthwhile."

"Very neat and clean. Although it’s a bit far from station, you can reserve pick-up service which is very convenient. We booked a room with private semi outdoor hot tub. They do excellent in pest control, hence there’s no mosquito or other flies disturb while you are enjoying hot tub."

"Hotel facilities at big building is good. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to use the hot spring (main reason to choose this hotel) because there was drunk guest throw up inside men room and no one came to clean. Bed sheet has water stain on the outside so could be bothering for someone."

The room and the Onsen were EXACTLY like those in the listing and were absolutely stunning! The breakfast was delicious and the range more than adequate. The location is good if you drive but is about 1km walk to Beppu Tower and a bit more from the night street. But I’d happily trade that for the spacious room and the wonderful sea and sunrise view.

Awesome Seaview directly from large windows inside room. Can sit by the window and watch sunrise and sunset. Breakfast and dinner are delicious. Highly recommend.

The service they provide is up and beyond. I love how this whole place is set up in such a way for people to mingle. I wish I could have stayed longer and chat with the people. Unfortunately I think it was off peak season so there weren't many people. The owner is generous and friendly, people that stays there are good natured people. The owners sang country road to everyone that leaves in the morning, very heart warming and eye teary especially when I met a wonderful old couple from kagoshima during the wonderfully made breakfast. The common area, which is the dining area, has a scenic view of outside, and the main city that lights up a little at night and beautifully decorated interior. It feels like home. I also enjoyed the indoor onsen too. My favourite bit was the classical music playing in the background, and how accessible it is, like a backyard. If you stay here, return the deed by being good guests.

We selected a Japanese style tatami room which was nice a spacious. However, most if the room looks old and very dated. Clock kept making ticking noise that made it hard to sleep but hotel staff was very kind and quick to remove it when we requested. Hotel was very crowded and full of children so the hot spring bath was also very crowded and noisy at times. It was very nice for the hotel to provide free snacks and beverages until late at night. It's a very family hotel and the view is excellent. It's actually in Hiji about 20 mins from Beppu centre. Breakfast is very good. We enjoyed our stay but the rooms can go for a round of uplift to not look dated.

Location is near Beppu station. Car parking was next to it, controlled by lift. Meaning park and the car was lifted in a building. Charged per daily and could retrieve car anytime. 7 private Onsen rooms, need to queue to use during evening. One or 2 was empty during afternoon. Complimentary ramen in soya sauce broth from 10-11pm, if missed it, take the house brand instant noodle cup from reception. Remember to take the complimentary Yakult from 6-10am. Coffee and matcha machine in lobby. Remove shoes at lobby and roll luggages over a wet mat. Bare foot or socks provided throughout hotel, even at restaurant. Didn’t try the breakfast and dinner. Typical Japanese hard mattress and pillows. Good for families or friends up to 4 per room.

The private onsen attached to my room was a highlight, allowing me to unwind in soothing hot springs while taking in the picturesque views. What truly sets Kannawaen apart is the attention to detail and personalized service. The staff went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect, making me feel truly cared for throughout my stay. good value for money! would definitely stay again location: it's relatively further from the station , around a 8-10min walk. there is a 7-11 just around the corner room: my room came without a bathroom but for the ladies are 3 cubicles shared among the 7 mix gendered guests on the floor. i did not have to wait in line at all. there was more than enough space in the room to open my suitcase wide and still feel comfortable. bed and pillow was a bit hard though, and you can hear anyone talking loudly downstairs outside the building as the room is on 2nd floor, tho that doesnt happen very often. food: amazing balanced breakfast that changes everyday - really delicious! onsen: the one on 2F was smaller than 1F, but very good and comfortable. clean too. you can book a private onsen room for 500yen (50mins) staff: all of them were super friendly, helpful and made me feel welcome. there are english-proficient staff available 24H as well :)
