"The hotel is in need of a complete refurbishment.
There is peeling window frames and wallpaper and the lifts don't work - not for the old and infirm.
The room we were given was on the second floor and we were told it was overlooking the Castle which we couldn't see through dirty windows.
Its a shame really as the hotel is very much part of Cardiff's history but you get the impression that the owners are just making-do presumably because the cost of bringing the hotel up to date will cost millions - sorry won't be back"

"The receptionist was warm and welcoming. His information about checking in was clear and understandable. The facilities in the room was fantastic, though room was a bit too small.
The only regret was that there was no intercom to call the reception when I needed a room service. I had to go down myself. In general, it was a great experience. Hoping to visit again soon."

Sadly the room was not up to standard,
Really disappointed with the bathroom, silverfish in the sink and bath, shower was unusable due to clogged trains, beds were clean. Room included iron and board alongside other little amenities.
General hygiene of the hotel was great, downstairs was beautiful, although we didn’t eat/ drink from the bar and restaurant it did look very nice.
View was beautiful but would’ve been nicer if the windows were clean and hairless."

"Everything was fine, but we didn't have a good view despite paying for a high-floor room. Also, there was only one bathrobe in our room rather than two, but they gave us one more when we asked. And the bathroom sink drain had a problem, so water barely passed through. Overall, the breakfast, pool facilities, and luggage storage were excellent for us. My one less star for cleanliness was due to a dirty wardrobe we had. But the room was fine and clean."

"We went to the Royal Hotel not really knowing what to expect.
It is set with a lovely building. The architecture is beautiful.
The hotel is set out in an odd way but I think that adds the character. You enter on the ground floor, go up two floors to reception. There is a small bar there that offers free teas and coffees.
The slug and lettuce down stairs provides you with 20% off of food if you show your keycard.
The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable about the local area.
Location is good and because we were on the 4th floor we couldn’t hear the noise for the streets below.
The room was ok. Aircon in the room with tea and coffee.
Now two great points that I’ve been saving….!!
1. The shower! Let me tell you something it’s like I was sat in a typhoon, Cardiff clearly doesn’t have an issue with its water pressure!
2. The bed, it was luxurious, I was able to sink and sleep so soundly! We need this bed for our house!"

MMisafir KullanıcıTHIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE STAYED AT ”THE HOTEL INDIGO” & IT WILL DEFINATLY NOT BE THE LAST! WE CANNOT FIND ANY FAULTS WITH THIS HOTEL AT ALL. THE STAFF ARE EXTREMELY FRIENDLY & GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO BE HELFUL. EVERYWHERE IS SPOTLESSLY CLEAN, EVEN THE SHOWER GEL SMELLS REALLY NICE! THE BREAKFAST IS THE BEST IN CARDIFF, AS FAR AS WE ARE CONCERNED, SO MUCH CHOICE, & ITS ALL LOVELY, DON'T KNOW HOW THEY DO IT. THE CENTRAL LOCATION IS SUPERB FOR ALL ATTRACTIONS & PUBLIC TRANSPORT LINKS. THANKS FOR A PERFECT BANK HOLIDAY BREAK, SEE YOU AGAIN VERY SOON 😊

Didn’t get the room type booked but managed for 2 nights.
Agent at checkin took several minutes before acknowledging me in the queue. I would have been happy being told ”I’ll be with you in a few minutes” instead of being ignored whilst he chatted with his colleague about what seemed to be an issue. I believe because he was distracted, we weren’t given any hotel information - i.e. location of lifts, breakfast time etc. which is standard.
Breakfast service wasn’t great the first morning. Second morning was much better. I think it’s because we arrived at approx. 10:30 on the first day and the team was ready to go as I could hear them counting down the minutes to the end of their shift. No hot drinks offered; told drinks were on the buffet when in fact they needed to be ordered. Drinks eventually brought on asking again, but no cups. Had to ask for them.
Quite noisy at night because of all the bars and restaurants outside, which meant the window couldn’t be left open, as the room was quite warm, despite adjusting the temperature of the HVAC system.
Very nice, modern hotel, could improve with better staff training.

Tthe travelling brummieBest hotel I've been to so far all the staff day/night was well mannered happy helpful joyful staff from reception to dinning down to the cleaners all have above and beyond with my stay from the moment I arrived made me feel equal as im disabled the lift access was easy to use helpful with my luggage straight away no waiting around reception was brilliant excellent communication got my room card really quickly no waiting around 3 lifts so plenty of access to floors my room was beautiful spacious easy access with quick card entrance with electric door just swap and the door opens for you with one press button to exit bathroom has all disabled access toilet bars shower seat with arm rests your able to move from side to side which helps getting to dry floor food was amazing from breakfast buffet massive selection you got to try the mixed fruit juices red and green flavour explosion have your great British fry up with a croissant and cappuccino for afters even had reserved table with easy access with out asking help with service if you want your breakfast brought too your room i highly recommend you stay in the Leonardo hotel for best stay on what ever your needs great tourist's while on your stay you have to visit the castle

Second offer of a room was a disabled room still with just double bed. Then found out that all rooms only have double bed with shower over bath. Staff were very helpful but didn’t tell us upfront so we wasted a lot of time. In fact we didn’t have enough time to eat before we had to leave for our event. So finally we had to have a snack at 11:30 when we returned. Even then we had to go out to get it as room service is only available via an app

MMisafir KullanıcıI really enjoyed my stay overall. The location was fantastic—on a beautiful street—and the hotel building itself is stunning. When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by a very kind Italian gentleman, which gave me a great first impression. My room, though located in a separate area, was clean, modern, and nicely decorated. Everything looked fresh and well thought out.
However, I was disappointed to find visible stains on the bed sheets. While I believe they had been washed, the stains hadn’t come out and the sheets were still used, which didn’t match the high standard the rest of the hotel presented. I think they should have replaced them.
Another minor inconvenience was the bathroom light, which was automatic and triggered the extractor fan. This meant that even during the night, using the bathroom caused the noisy fan to stay on for a while, which could’ve been avoided with a manual light switch, in my opinion.
Despite these issues, the stay was mostly very positive, but I can’t give a full five stars because of the sheets. Hopefully this can be improved for future guests.

Ttrain travellerVery clean and quiet hotel with pleasant reception staff and probably easy to access by car. Not so easy to get to by foot from Cardiff Bay station as extensive building works have closed off original pedestrian footpaths and lighting at night not very helpful. This is not the fault of the hotel but is something to be aware of.

MMisafir KullanıcıI’m so glad we decided to stay at The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff. I’d been given the very important job of finding a place to stay overnight for my friend’s special birthday. I didn’t really know where to start, so I compared prices of hotels in the area. I was surprised to find that the ‘budget’ hotels Premier Inn and Travelodge were no cheaper than The Coal Exchange for the given dates! I had a look at the photos and reviews and it looked perfect for a special occasion. It was steeped in history with the interior design staying true to the period in which it was built. Originally, as there were five of us, I had booked the sextuplet room. It looked amazing and we were all really excited about staying there. Unfortunately though, due to maintenance work being carried out on that part of the building, we had to change our plans to three double rooms right next to each other. The rooms were beautiful. Floor to ceiling double windows, opulent wallpaper, ornate period furniture and a lovely comfortable centrepiece bed.
The bathrooms had gorgeous jacuzzi baths and stone basins.
The following morning we had a delicious breakfast in Culley’s Restaurant situated inside the Coal Exchange.
The staff here are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have the best stay.
Can’t wait to go back.

Don't be confused though, there are two Travelodges and we went to the wrong one first which was conveniently close to the train station. A short taxi ride took us to the correct one. Reception is unusually on the 3rd floor, but friendly staff. Your pass key will only unlock your floor which also has safety doors. Be careful not to put it near your phone as it desensitised it and it won't unlock anything - like mine, but a visit to the Reception fixed that. Felt very safe there as the automatic doors from street level lock at night, so no one could wander in off the street. A bar and cafe located on same 3rd floor as Reception was convenient for a drink and snack. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cardiff has a large pedestrian area, so it was easy to walk to major shops, restaurants and pubs (recommend the Owain Glyndwr) and attractions such as Bute Park and Cardiff Castle were easy to walk to. The Christmas markets and Winter Wonderland were also close by and beautiful to view at night. Foreign money exchange was a short walk from hotel at the Queen Street shopping arcade entrance.

LL BarberVisited here for NYE for a couple of days in cardiff with close friends and it was amazing and we all loved it.
Hotel was clean, staff were super friendly and helpful and the amenities were great and got plenty of use from our party (pool,spa etc).
99/100% we will definitely be returning!
