This hotel is in a prime location on Main Street, right next to the famous Cheng Huang Miao temple. It offers both convenience and a sense of seclusion. Despite my room being near the main entrance, I experienced no noise or disturbances. The hotel arranged a seamless transfer from East Gate, where vehicles are permitted, to the temple, followed by a short 50-meter walk to the hotel. This service, included in the hotel package, made the arrival process effortless. Communication via WeChat and assistance from my tour guide ensured a smooth transfer both in and out. They also provided luggage assistance, which was one of the reasons I chose this hotel. The owner… or at least, I assume he is was incredibly friendly, informative, and helpful. He provided useful tour information and even gifted a bottle of vinegar upon departure. Only one exception that language might be a barrier if you totally can’t speak Chinese - but fret not there’s always translator tools. The room was very comfortable and appeared newly renovated, with excellent pillows and a cozy comforter. Both the room and bathroom were clean. Amenities included disposable towels, essential toiletries, and a powerful hairdryer. We didn’t have any food here as our room didn’t come with it but that’s fine, there are plenty of options in Pingyao which you should go out to try. As a frequent guest of Marriott chains (which means I have certain level of expectations), I had to explore local options since there isn’t one in Pingyao. This hotel met my expectations, and I highly recommend it to both local and international travellers. For the reasonable price and excellent location, I have no complaints, except that I wish I had stayed two nights instead of one!

We had the best stay at Elswhwere Hotel West Gate. The building is restored it the nicest way really gives you the feeling of timetravel. The people working in the hotel, were carrying and welcoming. They explained us how to navigate the city, helped us buy tickets for the city sights, recommend restaurants and we even got a room upgrade and lovely gifts to take home and remember our time in Pingyao. The bed was so comfortable and we had the best sleep. Can recommend this hotel full heartedly. Would definitely come back! Thank you Helen and Fenny for making our stay so memorable.

This hotel is really really lovely! The design is beautiful too and the location is well chosen! The staff were so incredibly kind and had us have a room upgrade. They were willing to help us with any questions and organised an excellent ride from the hotel to the train station. The room is clean and comfortable with airco. The beds don’t only look nice they sleep nice as well.

When coming to Pingyao I will recommend to stay inside the old town The location of this hotel is very central to explore all the attractions. Going through the narrow alley to reach the hotel, you don't exoect to discover such and amazing and authentic stay, a beautifully restored building with modern ooms and amenities. The staff can not help enough, so helpful with everything, great recommendations for sightseeing and eating. Complimentary breakfast delivered to our room and railway station pick up and drop off. Mineral water and fruit basket during our stay and a departure gift. Overall experience was fantastic. We'll definitely recommend this hotel and stay there without hesitation again. Everything looks magic and brings us in an old Chinese movie around here. The simple and probably old renovation of the hotel respects this particularity, offering a correct comfort. The isolation is not optimum but I would not expect more from any other place in the town. We asked for the hotel restaurants and they gave us a coupon for one out (we’ve been there, it was really nice). The choice of breakfast (between western and Chinese) is great. Pickup service is perfect, very fast and convenient!!! The staff, especially Bae, is very nice and helpful. Our train was cancelled and they immediately took care of us, giving a new room (a suite, very beautiful and comfortable).

Great stay! The best one so far during my trip! When you enter, you'll get a cup of tea, and the receptionists will explain a few things (where to eat, what to see, and so on). After you'll go to your room, which is traditionly built! The whole hotel is super beautiful! Bed is comfy, I slept like a baby! You'll get a welcome snack, and I had a personal card written by the staff! Also, the Chinese breakfast is jummie! For the Western people, they also provide another kind of breakfast in case they won't like the Chinese breakfast. The location is good! Super close to the north gate, where you can grab a didi to go to the train station! In 10 minutes you'll be in the bustling area where you find restaurants, bars and shops! And when I left, I got a goodbye present!! So kind

We stayed at thos lovely hotel. Lovingly restored by the current owner Mr Wang. He is the 6th generation owner of the property. Until 10 years ago it was a derelict and dilapidated building. He poured money, time, blood, sweat and tears to restore it And it does feel and look like a traditional house. You feel you are going back in time. Firstly the customer service is way beyond the call of duty. Its so good, i would recommend staying with mr Wang at whatever hotel he runs. He picked us at the Lower East Gate, and brought us to the hotel, then took nearly half an hour to explain in great detail where we need to visit, whether the sights be in the city or outside the city. Some of his suggestions, not on the tour books were very good . For example he suggested 3 restaurants, and we avoided them thinking he was getting a kickback.on our 4th and last day we tried restaurant no 2 of his. And it was good , the food and service were good. The prices were average with other restaurants and we got a 10% discount being the hotel's guests. And remember we had eaten 10 meals by the time we came to his suggestions. Another suggestion of Mr Wang was Ma family home - also a very good tip from him. Everytime we had a request or question he always responded with enthusiasm. On our last day we checked out at 4am and he still took us to the pick up point at that ungodly hour. Yep Mr and Mrs Wang's customer service is just first class. The room was large, queen deluxe double, and the furnishings were traditional chinese furniture made of Rosewood. Very Expensive furniture for a hotel room. Shower worked well and was hot. However be aware its chinese style wet floor system ie there is no shower curtain between the shower and a small part of the bathroom does get wet if youare not careful. MR Wang said it will be one his improvement on his priority list. Hopefully by the time you booked the problem will have been resolved The hotel is very close to the main streets. About 5 min walk. The city of pingyao is worth visiting, it is one of the very walled cities left in China, with its old buildings intact and people still living it. All the city walls are also intact. Magnificent at night.

The homestay is directly in the old town with all of the attractions in walking distance. As an unexpected surprise I was picked up from the train station and offered to get brought back. In general the service has been above and beyond helping me to find my way around to the sights I wanted to see. The included breakfast was also delicious with a choice of different local dishes. The room in ancient style was clean and had all the modern amenities. The highlight was the courtyard and the view from one of the higher floors.

What a wonderful experience! The hotel is located in a beautiful historic setting within the ancient city walls of Pingyao, right in the heart of the old town. The atmosphere is truly authentic—you feel like you've stepped back in time. It's the perfect base for exploring this charming city. The rooms are clean and reflect the traditional style of the surroundings, adding to the overall charm. But what truly made our stay special was the staff: incredibly friendly and always willing to help. Despite the language barrier, they went out of their way to communicate with us, using translation apps and lots of patience. We felt genuinely welcomed. All in all, highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique and memorable stay in historic Pingyao!
